Morning everyone
I recently posted about gluing or welding my pans in (7/16)
This morning I pulled the pans out of the box and was not happy.
All four pans are cut up and banged up. Not sure if the cuts are suppose to be there or not. Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think.
Thanks Richard

The cuts are normal for cheaper floor pans. Your gonna be best off welding them in.

I went back to Auto Body Specialties website and zoomed in on the pictures of each pan. Yep they look just as bad as the ones I got. Any idea where I can get better quality. A lot of people recommended them so I placed my order.
Life is one big learning experience.
Thanks
Richard

Wow I didnt know that ABS panels were that cheap looking. Thanks for warning the rest of us and good luck with your project.

amd panels are really sweet easy to work with cost a little more but well worth it auto metal direct call stephens performance at 1 256 247 1332 tell them mike sexton said to call they will help you

you could also talk to Jeff at 521 Restorations. I think he is a member here...jsbrown i think...

These are for an early A body correct ? Those are your only choice. Also. Auto Body Specialties doesnt make any of the panels, They sell, AMD, GoodMark etc.

Thanks Guys
ABS charges $20.00 per panel for shipping so it was $80.00 plus the price of the panels. I thought the shipping was high for 37 pounds. So if I ship them back it will cost me more money.

I'll use what I have and get on with the project. Next time I'll know where not to get them. I will also weld them in.
Thanks for the input.

They may be a little overcut also to trim them to fit, and the relief cuts are there to flex them in at points that may not be the same on all cars. Of course I'd weld them in also, it makes it much easier to work them in, and provides much more structure when you're finished than any glue would. I think you'll be happy with them once they are in, and you'll be glad the relief cuts are there when installing them!! Geof

I bought a floor pan like that for my 67 formula. It needed the front passenger side.I got my floor panin the mail and was not happy with it,I just could not bring myself to use it.So I ordered a AMD 1/2 pan, since they don't make a 1/4 pan.I cut what I needed out of the 1/4 and welded it in.The AMD pan was a perfect fit...I paid $175.00 for the AMD 1/2 pan but I am glad I used it.

I don't think there are any after market pans that are right for an early Dart. All the pieces I looked at were for a later A-Body or for a Valiant/Barracuda. The Dart floor is longer than a Valiant/Barracuda due to the longer wheelbase. I don't think anybody makes the extension for the rear foot well of an early Dart that adds the extra length.

Not that you can't make them fit, but I went with an original floor from a donor car.

Just my opinion, I used one of those panels, once you get them welded in I don't think you will be dissatisfied. Another option if it's only a small area that's rusted just cut that part out and weld in a patch.

I installed a new early-a front floor pan in my 66 Valiant and fit was perfect, just like the factory one, I was very happy with it...mine did not have the cuts in the corners either.

I did the same--found a more-door 64 parts car, and figured I'd make the pans work as much as possible for my 63 convert. Hell--they dropped right in! :blob: Maybe try some of the desert junkyards that advertise good metal, and have them ship.

Those look typical for floor pans. You could always "smooth" the floor pans out like we are doing a Chevy II at work. The floor pans was fine in this nova but we are taking "u" shaped aluminum and gluing those to the pans with urethane. Then take taking flat pieces of aluminum and cutting to fit the floor pan as well as the fire wall section of the floor area. After that the aluminum is fastened to the "u" shaped channels with counter sunk screws. This gives a much smoother look and makes the carpet lay flatter. Of course the car will not get the formed carpet but a higher quality floor carpet. Hard to explain but it will look better than the standard floor pan.

if your doing an early A, then what you have is the best they've got. AMD
does NOT have early a floor pan stuff anywhere on their web site and I have heard of anyone getting any 66 down dart floor pans. when I do the other dart I'm going to find a rust free floor pan pulled from another car. I looked at the amd site and they have exactly 7 items for a 66 dart
listed below. now if you have a later model they have tons of stuff.

I used abs panels and the fit was great(some trimming on the outside required). it even fit the trans/torsion bar mounting bar correctly I wouldn't hesitate to do that again but I'm lazy and want a 1piece drop in for the other convertible. if I had a hard top or sedan I'd order the pans because I am not sure the floor pan would go in the car in one piece.

Yours looks a little better than the cheap one I got from rockauto (~$55) for my 65 Dart. Yours goes up the sides more, and has a rough shape for the tranny tunnel, which I had to beat into mine with a rubber mallet. Mine were cut in the corners similarly. Shipping was cheap as I recall (~$10). I have cut my floor opening to match, but haven't welded in yet.
