From the ad: "Fastback model, 340 small block, automatic transmission and all original. Needs restore...has not run since 1991.

$5,000 or best offer!!!"

Personally, I have to disagree with the "all original" assertion, and I think that he is a wee bit on the high side for a car that has not ran since 91. Seems from his ad he is willing to negotiate. As I have said before, I am a sucker for Cali black plate cars, though this one has a little rust that the owner has provided pics of. 68's and Fastbacks are not really my thing, so I decided to pass it along to the masses. :D

Can anyone tell what the original color was based on what you see?

Added in e-mail from the owner:

"I have to broadcast sheet....I will post the picture.
I am the third owner...Universal Studios first owner.
Steering wheel and bumper is original.
Car will not turn over...needs work and has been sitting for 20+ years.
10.5 compression and DMV doesn't have any record maybe back fees?
Car is located in City Heights."

The burgandy looks like it was resprayed over red...hard to tell from pics. Wonder what the jambs and floor looks like.

I agree that if it was a 4 speed it would be more interesting and certainly a higher asking price. Interesting history if he is able to prove that Universal Studios was the first owner. Did bumperettes come on 68 cars, and I thought that the steering wheel was a 69 as well...could those be on a late 68 built car?

Anyone remember seeing a 68 FB in any movies? :happy2:

More info received from the seller:

"I've owned the car since 1982...then, I started driving my challenger in 1991 and that's when I stopped driving the barracuda. Here's a picture of the car from 1982 after I got it painted. The previous owner had a Earl Scheid gold on it...the original color was red. Since 1991 the car has been sitting under a tarp in the driveway. I really wish I never stopped driving it...had no idea it would fall apart like it did.

1982 after my paint job!"

Here's the broadcast sheet

The car has 8.75 rear end, heavy-duty brakes and the bottom end has never been bored out. The car has little rust and has always been a California car.

Interesting history nonetheless.

Steering wheel and bumperette were available on 1968.

I think you are missing the boat here.

Add up just the parts.

Rearend $500 and more since it is likely a Sure Grip
340 engine core and manifolds $750+
340 radiator $200+
Fan shrould $150
Trunk finish panel and clips $250+
150 MPH speedo $100+
Tach $200
Grilles $200+
Console/brackets/sfifter $200
Bucket seat cores and tracks $500
Factory exposed lugnut wheel covers $100
Kelsey Hayes disc brakes $300
Steering wheel and horn button $50+
340 hood louvers $150
Tail lights w/o broken lenses $150
Drive shaft for an 8 3/4 $100

I don't think I over priced anything but just this stuff totals $3600.

Take it out of Califorina to register it if there are back fees.
Oklahoma is one state that could car less about back fees from another state.

If I had the extra money and that car was here in Oklahoma she would be
having a new home as long as the title is good.

...so, 5k for a rolling non runner formula with a 340? Is that too much? If all it needs is a freshening of the engine and some sheetmetal, that doesn't sound terrible to me, but I'm not "up" on values of Barracudas...

I gotta agree with Okla on this, that car is worth $5k every day, that is if it is a true "S" and numbers matching. Universal studios, whether it was in a movie/show or not makes it unique and I would not pass this one up at all!

I think it is cheap being a real 340 car and still having about everything there.

Kinda what I figured...I'd love to have it, but for me to buy it, I'd have to get rid of my '72 Scamp...and that's not really an option for me...little bit of sentimental value for me

Normally I would be all over a Formula S like this assuming it matching numbers and documentation.

For some reason this car does nothing for me. Might be the various paint jobs, the rust, the black engine compartment or just the amount of work and money it would take to get it in a condition that I would drive it. The funny part is my standards for driving a car are pretty low.

I don't know how it should be priced. I might be interested if the price was half of the advertised price. Doesn't matter to me if the sum of the parts are worth more. If the car is out of the dmv system should not be any penalties due.

Nothing worse than storing a car under a tarp during long term storage. Just trapped all the moister and condensation in the car for the last 21 years. know wonder it's falling apart.:banghead:

I couldn't have said it better myself. I know that most people think that Cali residents are spoiled with the volume and quality of cars out here, but of the 67-69 Barracudas, Fastbacks are my least favorite bodystyle (I know most will likely find that odd).

I will have to remain in zhandfull's camp on this one. Mechanically and cosmetically this car needs some care and attention, and that will chew up a lot of $$, even if you did most of the work yourself.
