Hey guys, I am slowly moving on my dart project and just finished mocking up the steering. I am using tti mounts with grand Cherokee manifolds, and it seems to be awful tight. I have ground on the manifolds as much as I feel comfortable with, and I even cut 1/4 inch off of the steering box coupler. Is anybody else running this set up, and do you have any pics or suggestions?

That is definately an option I may have to go with, I will have to have it welded though as I don't trust my welding skills on steering:) When I looked at the old Hot Rod magazine article, it looked like it had a lot more clearance in one of the pics, but they also spaced the engine up about a half an inch. I tried that and It really didn't help, it almost put it more in the manifold.

I also will be using solid mounts, they just havent arrived yet.

any chance you could get a pic with the steering box and jeep manifold in it?

I looked for one and I didn't take one, the engine is back out of the car at the moment. The solid mounts did help a bit, but it was all really tight.

Interested in details... Power of manual steering ? Which Jeep manifolds ( casting numbers ) ? and more pics of both sides if and when. Thanks

I would ditch the coupler for a universal. You don't need to buy the special flaming river one.

Hey I got on the other computer and found some more pics of when I had it together. The manifolds were for an 05 grand cherokee hemi, I got them from the dealer because they were about 55 bucks each, which was cheaper than used it seemed. I just moved, so the Dart is packed full of its own parts for the moment, the manifolds weren't on top so I cant give the numbers right now. I ground on the outside of the drivers side for clearance, basically taking casting ribs off. The last pic shows how I shortened the outer shell of the column and moved the bearing in. The shaft is still very close to the valve cover, and I will probably clearance it. Hopefully in the next month or so I will be able to get back at it, getting settled in the new place is getting in the way of progress right now.

I think places like Speedway motors sells those steering u joints, I haven't looked lately, if they have one with the right splines on one side it would simplify it a lot, and probably give a lot more clearance.

Yup. I've done a few of them, each one a slightly different way. Thanks for the pics.

Here is the hemi as it sits now, I did a quickie garage hone with a polished used crank and a used 6.1 cam, so hopefully it will hold together long enough to work the bugs out of the rest of the car! I had the engine apart on the workbench, and then sold my house and had 45 days to get my stuff to the new place. It was definately the motivation I needed, easier to move in one piece!
