windage tray question

The crank would probably hit it, AND worse yet the mainbolts may work themselves loose with it between them and the caps.
It would scare me to try it.

I have a 318 and want to put a windage tray on it but dont have special bolts. My question (may be stupid) can i just drill the holes in the tray bigger and run the standard main cap bolts through it?
