My Demon 340 has the 5 x 4 bolt pattern with drum brakes. I thought the 340 cars had 5 x 4.5??? What would I need to replace to end up with the 5 x 4.5" I am looking to put larger wheels and tires on the car. If I have to spend the rubbles, should I invest in disc brake stuff while I am at it??
Thanks

#1--don't panic
what size do you want on your car?
they have small bolt stuff in limited styles
converting to lbp (4 1/2 pattern) adds numerous selections
look the site over-- there are lots of topics on wheels--
should be pictures of cars similar & see what you like

the easyist way for the back is the 4 to 41/2 aluim. wheel adapters. u bolt the adapter to the drum then bolt the wheel to the adapter i ran a set of these for years, had no trouble (ran on the back) but i would not run them on the front.i think i have a set inthe garage...if intersted let me know i will look the up..tim

To do it right:
Big bolt axels in the back.
73-up A body spindles, rotors, calipers, upper control arms up front.

It's Rallye or Steelies for me. You can get 14" & 15" in small or big bolt patterns

Did any 72 demons have the large bolt pattern?? If I want to exchange the axles for big bolt, I will need to pull them from an Abody 8.3/4 rear end vintage 73 year and up???

A 72 demon would not come from the factory with BBP...and no you can get axles from a 73 A body since mopar dropped the 8 3/4 rear end in 73 from the A bodies...73 and newer use a 8 1/4 rear and the axles do not interchange.

All demons came with small bolt pattern.
For big bolt pattern axels you will have to go aftermarket.
Strange and Moser are a couple suppliers.
Maybe someone else will chime in with other suppliers.

Just looked through the shed and remembered and found what I bought as an Abody 83/4 housing with a pair of axles with the large bolt pattern?? I remember buying this at a swap meet about 7 years ago. There was no center section so the axels are just slid into the tubes. I hope they are abody axels but it appears they will not be according to you post??? What should they measure?? Did they never use big bolt pattern in any Abody 83/4 rear?? If not, then I must have bought this rear and axels without knowing? Oh well, live and learn.

My demon also is smallbolt...340 car...8 3/4 and I also was looking to go 15 inch the way You are considering until I found a pair of custom smallbolt 15 by 8 wheels for 170 delivered. Then also found summitt or jeggs has the new and wider...but around 130 each...but that's alot better than axels,breaks,wheels.....

No A body 8 3/4 came with big bolt pattern from the factory. All small bolt.
As mentioned, the big bolt pattern started in 73, when A body cars used either a 7.25 or 8.25 rear. Both big bolt.

Looks like you have a nice set of 14x5.5 Rallye wheels.
Why not use those ?
Then switch the front brakes to small bolt Kelsey Hayes brakes.

I was actually looking to dump the rallye wheels in favor of some bigger beef as we are doing a 416 street stroker. I was toying with maybe 15 or 17 inch wheels? Are the Kelsey Hayes brakes disc brakes?

Yes... Kelsey Hayes are the small bolt pattern disc brakes.
I believe 67-72 A body cars.
