Gas whether 3.50 or 4 dollars will usually only add 1-4 dollars to total amount. That's my way of thinking about. Worry about has prices with a car like this, trade it in.

lots of good advice, not worried about gas but getting stuck would suck. We'll see how i feel in a day lol.

I'll tell you what, I drove my car to the Nationals in 1985. I had 3.91 gears and I had removed ALL of the insulation as I considered it dead weight. I was NEVER so glad to get out of a car in my life LOL. My feat were litererly sweating in my shoes from the headers under my feet and the noise from the engine (which I normally LOVE) was driving me crazy. If you can put up with it drive it but I'll bet that after the experience, next time you'll trailer it. See you at the Nationals and good luck!

I voted to drive it.. I have 355's in my Dart, Its been to the nats twice.. and going for its third trip tomorrow. I do agree with some of the other stuff said here though, my wife and I are usually happy as hell to get out of the Dart by the time we get there. its 3 hours one way and HOT as holy hell.. lol...

can you afford to get stranded?

well i could pay the tow bill if thats what you mean but who wants to sit for hours on the side of the freeway and then still have to ride back in a tow truck for 4 hours. I'm still feeling the car out so ill make a decision tomorrow.

I would trailer it there.......then drive it around the whole weekend.
Nothing worst than breaking down away from home in a unsafe
unfamiliar area.

Sell it and ride the bus.J/k ya. You need to answer the question yourself. If you drive it and do nothing but worry you will be miserable. If someone else built it tow it and feel the car out first. You wont have any fun worrying or broken down.

i had a ford ranger 4x4 that i put a 302 in it. had 4.10 with 31" tall tires. no insulation, no mat on the floor. truck was just an off road bomber. took it on a 700 mile round trip in the middle of august. was the most miserable trip i ever took....including riding a 600 mile trip on the bike in november......in the rain the entire way....

Unless, it is super reliable street car that is fairly comfortable.

If this is true, then its not an old musclecar.

Seriously, these are not Honda's or Toyota's. They're not supposed to be, and I'm damn glad they aren't. If you want a classic car, part of the deal is that they occasionally break down. If you can't get over that and drive it anyway, then maybe they're not for you.

I've put 40k miles on my Challenger in the last 4 years. It has NEVER been towed. There's been a few hiccups, its put me on the side of the road a couple times, and I've been late a few places, but I've always driven it back after some tinkering. It's hot, it's loud, it leaks oil, occasionally a little water, and transmission fluid. It fills up with exhaust fumes if you put the windows in the wrong place, the headers drag on speed bumps, and just about everything rattles. And I drive it almost every day. In the rain, in the SNOW, when its 100+ degrees outside, all of it. In short, its almost never "fairly comfortable". But that's why I love it, even if I occasionally wish I had air conditioning.

If you're going to trailer it everywhere and park it on the grass, sell the damn thing to someone that will actually enjoy driving the crap out of it. Its a CAR, you're supposed to DRIVE it.

you have had the car for a week??? I would have already put a ton of miles on it...go over the entire car looking at wiring and putting a wrench to every nut and bolt on the car especially the headers. go pound the wheels off it till its time to go....if it breaks.....fix it!!!

Wow i had no idea this would draw such a response so far im loving this site, always tons of feedback. I completely agree with the drive it or sell it mentality. I love old cars for the "character". And trust me i will put plenty of miles on the car.

Last year I put a motor in my car 4 days before driving it to Mopaerfest -3000 miles 1 way , this year I built my first tranny and put it in a couple of weeks ago - I leave tomorrow for Moparfest - no guts no glory even god hates a coward . just set aside some extra cash in case you need to ship it home and if that happens oh well shrug your shoulders when they ask and fix it that's all , after all that's what we do here we build cars ,we break them and then we fix them .

Maybe have someone follow in a regular car or truck? Or travel in a group like the "power tour" does
