Looking for a loud set of mufflers from summit, kinda sound like flowmasters.. thanks

Only an original style 40 series sounds like Flowmaster. Everything else doesn't even come close.

Do yourself a favor and spend a little more now and don't be sorry later!

I Have heard that the flowmaster VT are really great, idle with good cam sound, and quiet on easy cruise but will sound off when u get on it on it......the only issue 85 apiece

The Thrush welded mufflers and Force mufflers are both exact copies of the original 40 series Flowmasters at half the price. Or you can buy something that flows good.

Adam you are 100 percent on the money(No pun intended) for the price. thrush welded are excellent

I don't understand why everyone likes Flowmaster 40's. The drone like crazy, don't sound all that great, and don't actually flow all that well. But what do I know, I run Summit glasspaks on my Challenger. They're loud, but they flow well (straight through!). And they're pretty cheap.

The Summit turbo's actually sound pretty good if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to flowmasters.

Check out this thread, sound clip from a full Summit 2.5" exhaust kit with Summit turbo mufflers...

I had a set of summit turbo mufflers on my duster. They sounded good but were just to tame.....didn't have any "grumble" to them and barely showed off my cam. I decided to ditch them for something else and started looking into flow master 40's and decided that's what I wanted. Then learned the thrush weldeds were actually the original makes of the 40 series design and it was basically the same. So I went to advanceautoparts.com and put a set of the mufflers in my shopping cart ....then used a discount code ( easy to find if you go to retailmenot.com and then type in advanceautoparts ). And I think I ended up paying $32.00 for the pair of them TOTAL. And used the instant pick up at store delivery option......then I got off the computer, hopped into my truck, drove to my local advance auto parts store and picked them up. Very simple, saves a bunch of cash AND....they sound awesome!. Very pleased with them and have got a lot of compliments on the sound. Aggressive and deep yet mellow enough for the street.

I actually love the sound of flowmasters but the truth is they just arent the best in the flow department. My Car has the pypes street pro on it which is kinda a mix between a turbo muffler and a chambered muffler. With the X pipe and the stock manifolds its pretty quite but Its starting to grow on me.

I was always told the 40 series design was created by thrush and then flow master came along and dubbed it the 40 series under their branding. They are basically the same though.

I think thrush has been around since early 60's and flow master since early 80's maybe.

I'm not 100% on all that...i could be wrong....just saying.

Either way, I think they both sound good. I am also a fan of the hooker super comps, they have a real nice roar to them.

No the chambered 40 series was Flowmasters design. They let the patent expire on it and when it did both Force and Thrush came out with exact copies at half the price.

No need to spend $75ea on Flowmasters when you can get either copy for $35ea.

Thanks! Just got a set of the thrush welded for $49 dollars plus shipping. Total of $60.

BTW I had the summit mufflers on my 440 dart and I hated the way they sounded.

what an awesome idea , im going to do just that. do you by chance have the code handy?

summit has a chambered muffler now as well. Not sure if it is an exact copy of the flow master design.

I have owned/seen/heard a set of 40 series and a set of thrush welded mufflers. Both are exactly the same, metal thickness, construction, internal baffles. anyone who thinks the flowmaster is somehow a better muffler, has not had both products in their hands.

I'm using the Thrush welded, they sound great ! Can't beat the price of these mufflers.
The third link under my signature gives you an indication of how they sound.

I used this one.
RETMENOT123

yup, retmenot123 , aswell as VISA and PAYPAL have been usable codes for about 2 or 3 years straight now (never expire) ....I bet i have saved thousands of dollars in the last few years buying my parts from them and using the discount codes.

up until a couple of months ago .....their 20% off discount codes had to limit to them which came in handy for buying bigger items like a carburetor or wheel bearing or half shaft .....etc....etc..... but I THINK that they put a cap on it so now the MOST you can have discounted from your price when using a 20% off discount code is $50.00.

however. I found a way to work the system as best to my advantage as possible.
Say I need 4 items and they total roughly $400.00 . and say I use a coupon code like PAYPAL or VISA for example that offer $30.00 off atleast a $100.00 purchase. Rather than buying all 4 items for $400.00 and only saving $30.00 on my order. I will make an individual order for each item....I will place an order for item number one and save $30.00, then place and order for item number two and save $30, item 3 and 4 I do the same process. Doing it this way would turn my $400.00 order into a $280.00 order after saving $30.00 x4 ( $120.00 ) .

just a little trick for those of you that need to save a couple bucks. you save even more if you have an advanceautoparts local to you, because if what you purchase they have in stock (you can check online if your local store has what you want instock) then you don't even have to pay shipping costs. just walk in and pick them up that same day.

sorry for the big long write up on it.....hope it helps some of you out though.

there is one pretty big diference betwen the thrush and flowmaster mufflers. one is made in the peoples republic of have a gues, the other one is made in the united states of alitle closer to home for most of you.

you want loud , cherry bomb or any similar style . They will wake up the dead , set off car alarms and start riots on the street
