For those of you that ARE NOT, using alterkation or something similar.
What TBs are you using under the new hemi 5.7 or 6.1?

I've been in contact with Mike at PST, and he suggests running the 0.096", over the 1.03".

" As far as torsion bars go I would say .096" is probably the best bet. They are a stiffer 440 bar that retains the factory clocking so you can raise them a little higher if needed. The 1.03 bars are clocked differently and with a lot of weight would sit low. "

I won't pretend to know what clocking means.

Order a set of Mopar 0.096" bars from Summit or Jegs. JMO

Considering the hemi weighs less than the LA smallblock, I'm not real sure what he's getting at. Just about any torsion bar you have right now should work fine.

I'll be running 1.04's. But that choice has nothing to do with the hemi swap, and everything to do with handling. Pick your spring rates based on what you want to accomplish with the car as far as ride quality vs handling/ body roll in a corner.

Clocking of the torsion bars - depending on who manufactured the bars and how stiff they are, the front hex will be offset differently vs the rear hex. That allows for a different range of ride height adjustment.

as it sits now, I have the TB for the 73 S6.
I just swapped to a v8 k frame.
That offset explains why i had to lift the LCAs up to get the TBs to slide into the TB socket and the tb cross member.

73duster.., as far as tubular K, I don't have the 4 or 5 grand starting for a setup like alterk.

I think I still have /6 bars in my car and can't complain too much. I don't really try to carve any corners though. It sits fine and I have enough adjustment to get it wherever I want it. I ended up dropping it probably an inch from where it was when I bought the car with the 318 in it. Big bars may make header clearance even tighter though. I know mine barely squeeze past the TTI's as is.

run the .096". way better ride than the 1 inchers. I've had both and the 1 inchers are like driving a truck.

Totally disagree. I run 1" Just Suspension bars in my Duster. If anything, I'll upgrade them to 1.03's or 1.06's in the future because they're a little on the soft side for me.

As far as bars for the hemi, anything in the .96- 1.03" range will be just fine. If you're looking for a softer ride, go with .96". If you're looking for better handling, go up to 1.03".

You don't have to spend 4k for a good setup. Those guys are way over-priced. There are kits for half that price out there if you know who to talk to

Talk to 73dusterb5blue, he can set ya with a tubular k-frame and all the stuff. Send him a pm and get schooled, lol!!

Have you weighed a Gen III Hemi? From what ive read of other people it weighs about the same as an aluminum headed 383/400 Big Block. Quite a bit more than an LA motor.

Not true. A 340 bare block weighs ~160-170 lbs. a 5.7-6.1 hemi bare block weighs 165 lbs. And a 440 bare block weighs ~225 lbs.

You're looking at about 450-500 lb for a fully dressed hemi. Block is 165, 6.1 crank is 10 lb heavier than the 5.7 at ~65, short block weighs 250-300, heads 70, etc.

I would say an aluminum headed LA would be right at the weight of a 5.7/6.1 hemi, and a Aluminum headed RB would be ~55 lb heavier.

Here are some iron headed weights from Moparts tech archives:

Slant Six 475

273-340 "A" V8 525

360 "A" 550

361-383-400 V8 620

413-426W-440 V8 670

I dont know where you got your block weights but they are wrong. A Gen III hemi block is waaaaaaay beefier than an LA block. Here is where people have provided weight comparisons.. http://www.protouringmopar.com/show...h-Weigh-anything-you-have-and-post-it-up-here I guess bottom line maybe the Hemi weighs as much as a small block with an aluminum intake? Apples to Oranges.

What shocks do you run?

They just scaled a 5.7 longblock on one of the weekend car shows a few weeks back. Wish I could remember what it came in at... They dropped an 8-71 on top which weighed in over 100 lbs itself. Don't think the engine had accessories on it, but I thought they tossed the carbs and stuff on so they could see the difference the blower made.

+1 I have the Just Suspension 1" bars on my Duster (360 with iron Magnums) as well and the ride isn't bad at all even with worn-out shocks but the handling is WAYYY better than with stock T-bars esp. at high speeds. They would work great on a car with a new Hemi.

LOL my weights are not wrong. They were checked on lxforums and moparts.

So what are you saying weighs so much on a 3rd gen hemi? The block?

My car was heavier after hemi swap (5.7 truck, no A/C, alu flywheel, manual tranny) than old iron 340 + 904, even the new tranny is maybe 50lbs lighter than 904.
