I hate the new Dodge Dart

-
its a renamed neon, just like chevy changed the cavalier to the cobalt, and ford changed the escort to the focus...... its just to get rid of the bad reputation of the previous cars. Just fyi, i do think a 2 door version would be cool however

Believe it or not but the neon was one of the hottest selling, if not the hottest selling compact in their last year of production. The low cost of the car and rising fuel cost pushed the sales. It was a big flop with the ugly replacement Caliber.

I think it looks pretty cool too actually and I like the mpg they're saying it gets. Although like in my other post, the SRT4 option would have opened the consumer base. I guess its time for we mopar people to get creative with it huh? haha

I hate it, I feel so betrayed and insulted.
I have never despised a dodge vehicle as much as this new "dart".
I think they screwed up badly, they decided to ride the coattails of the new charger and challenger, decided "lets make a compact car...and use a nostalgic name like we did before to sell it"..

Looks nothing like a dart to me, looks like a damn fiat.
and you take away from the older darts in releasing this pos.

Fail dodge, fail....
The new Dart is nearly exactly what the old dart was. A small economy car. So flipping what it has Fiat guts. At least you can get it with a turbo or without A/C if you wish.

Your so stuck on what you think it should be and something like it was is out and gone. Face it !!!!! A new retro Dart would never sell enuff to make a profit.

BREAD AND BUTTER CARS... that's what the early dart and valiant were and every manufacturer needs them. I am sure that's what they are counting on with the new Dart. I hope it is successful in that role. If it helps Ma Mopar pay the bills and keep the doors open, good! I am sure there are a lot of American's counting on that for their own bread and butter. I sometimes fight those negative feelings myself, but this is the reality. It ain't 1963 anymore.

So true, the old days are long gone so we must live with it.

the local dealer called me when their first one came in since they know I have Darts. I went and took it for a test drive. Had a good shifting 6 speed but my left foot kept getting caught on something under the dash. Actually the interior was pretty nice but power was weak. Even after spooling the turbo up I wasn't impressed. It doesn't appeal to me as something I would buy. I had drove my "decoy" down for the test drive and told the salesman that "there was no way I would trade it even for the new one" and he told me he didn't blame me. He thanked me for my opinion and said "well its not for everyone". Although I do need to get me something that gets better milage that is not my choice, Joe

Car and Driver compared a Dart SE with a 1.4 turbo and a Focus SE with a 2.0 naturally aspirated. HP was the same, the Dart had 38 ft/lbs more torque and 300 lbs more weight. Despite the Dart having better gearing for acceleration and torque that peaked at 2500 rpm, the Ford beat it to all speeds. C&D liked the way the Dart drove.

My disappointment is that Mopar didn't see fit to make the new Dart rear drive. I was hoping for a BMW 135 in a Dodge body. Now I'm wanting to see a Scion FR-S or a Subie BRZ. Either one is going to be about the same $s as a Dart R/T.

don't mind the new dart style looks or any of that but come on 100'000 ways to customize except a 2 door model

boooo shame on ma using an old name to try n sell a product without paying proper tribute to what the name is to many people!!!!

same thing with the new POS charger good car n all but come on it shoulda been an avenger lol i have a 1970 dart and a 1972 charger, both my fav muscle cars and now their modern counterparts are sedans........nuff said

The SRT4 Dart is coming. It should be 300 HP and possibley AWD, which would eliminate torque steer but bump the price up. The big question is what motor is going into the new (2015) SRT Barracuda? The Challenger is going away and will be replaced by the Barracuda. They are making it smaller so it can compete with the Mustang GT.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.. Its exactly what it was.. a small economy car, relatively affordable...transportation... period.. I saw the one at the Nats, I liked it... Thinking about getting a blue one (wonder if they will offer it in B5 like the new Chally's... now wouldnt that be sweet...) I'll drive my modern, economical blue Dart all week, and take blue 'seasonal, fun to play with Dart' out on the weekends LOL ..

XS2... i would much rather put my hard miles on one these point A to point B cars than my old cars. after all, thats whats intended purpose is. its not supposed to be a performance or retro car regardless of what they call it. its just a name , so what.

Have said this since day one, if you don't like one people then don't buy one! Stop bitching and crying about it not being what is in your garage! Fiat is part of Chrysler now! And it's what's going to save Chrysler! This is a car for the masses! You think it should be this or that, well guess what your not a engineer or in marketing! You don't think Chrysler knows what's going to sell or not sell? Get real people!

I'm hoping it sells. People need jobs.

People need a job to buy a new car.
the vicious circle......anybody working on sticking a 604" 2G HEMI in one yet?? it is what it is, i am not a new car person so to me it is what it is, a new car. don't have to like it but that does not mean it is going away. i just wonder why fiat had to name it a Dart? i understand that a dart was an econo box back in the day, well at least some of them. but there was also the more than 1 high performance version of it. why not name it a Colt? for that matter why hash up any of the old badges? it is a new design auto why not give it a new badge?

Not about the new Dart II but seems the most people are on this thread. I am yanking the slant 6 outa my valiant. I'm trying to do it with the trans attached. 2 stabs at it and nodda. will I ever achieve the angle? Has anyone else done this? I'm stuck cause the motor will not turn over. Any help would be appreciated.

you should post your question in its repective forum for details

the short of it is yes and yes

Dodge Dart America's 1st Fine Economy Car

One could say the entire A body series, paid no homage to the original Dart... What design cues from the '60 Dart carried over into our A bodies besides the Unibody construction?
