I just bought an 833, but not sure what it is. It is cast iron case and tail shaft. It does have a large IBR 5.12", and a large yoke 727 style output shaft. It is A-body, and came with complete shifter rods, and handle. on the side mounting pad it has pp833 5439.
I am confused b/c I thought that all OD transmissions were aluminum and had a small 904 style yoke with the 5.12 IBR, and this is cast iron and with a large yoke.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Look at where the rods mount if the farthest to the front faces down its an OD one.

My brother has one exactly like you described...5.12",all cast iron, A body, large yolk...they are out there. If you thought you had a non OD when you bought it and want to sell it, send me a PM, I may be interested in it.

Thanks, That is what I thought. Now I have 2 OD trans. one aluminum and the cast iron. I suppose the cast is the stronger of the two and Maybe I will use it.
Can it be converted to a non-OD trans by changing the guts, or is it not worth doing?

the case is the same & it can be converted , unless your pushing over 400 hp there is no need , it just depends on what you want to use it for & what your needs are . Youve already got it so use it & change it later if it doesnt meet your needs.
