what are you guys doing to block off your heater hose water passage on your factory water pumps? im not using my heater core and i dont want to run just a hose from the pump to the intake. i want to block it off completely, or is this not a good idea? is there anything out there like a cap made for doing just this? no luck with the summit search function. thanks guys

I saw a nice neat one at the Goodguys show in Spokane. I don't know if this was a specialty pump or what. It APPEARED to be a stock type pump that someone had cut (milled) the hose bib off off, tapped and plugged it!!!. Looked nice and neat

Thats what I would do also, tap and plug it, with loctite.

that was an idea i was tossing around as well, i have a plug that would fit in there. maybe thats what i will do instead.

I used one with clamps for years and had no problem...........but those pics definitely are an eye opener.
If you can use a solid plug , I would go that way and eliminate any question.
If you can't , well .......... it worked for me.

Lit my Magnum up,to break in the cam.The pesky Motormite rubber cap leaked.(After 60 days,love china!) A penny,matched perfectly.Mixed J.B.Weld,slapped it on.Being in Cali,don't need a heater.

i tell you though, the cast aluminum housing is what bothers me. i dont want to crack or shatter it trying to thread it. funny thing to, a friend of mine was trying to thread his and broke the damn thing and had to replace the pump. its got me a little skittish

Then don't let him do it for you.:D

Seriously though, you might try cutting the nipple down to where there is more meat. Drill it to the recommended size for the tap and then use plenty of lube or anti-sieze on the tap. Go slow and only tap enough for what you need for the plug.

Ive seen them in the help sections at parts store before. You can go on ebay, and search heater by pass caps. I like the idea of tapping it and putting a plug in it !

In the summer I disconnect and block off the heater so it's a little cooler in the car. Tried 2 of those rubber caps (bought at NAPA) and both ended up leaking. After the 2nd leaked I measured the i.d. of the nipple and it was perfect to tap for a 7/16" fine thread bolt. I used a copper sealing washer under the bolt head and it worked great. Easy to remove when the colder weather hits and I want to hook the heater back up. As for the rubber caps, I used 1 to cover the bolt head for a clean look so they do have a little use. If you look close you can see it in this picture
