Vehicle transport questions

Thanks, earthmover. My last adventure to pick up a vehicle wasn't so pleasant. I drove to Phoenix paid for the car THEN found out that a trailer rental company that shall remain nameless would not rent me a dolly to haul the car with my Dakota - said it was too much weight and would be unsafe. So, I told the NEXT rental place that I was towing a VW beetle. God only knows what a hassle that lie could have caused in case of a wreck!

So I took the dolly back to the previous owner's place and learned the joys of loading a non-op vehicle onto a dolly. I got on the road and the car tried to unload itself. Fortunately a friend in town was able to help reload, and I took the night off. After that, it was just a long haul east on I-10. I've had worse experiences, but I swore to do it differently next time.

My NEW old car (also in Phoenix) is at least driveable, but the A/C is non-op. I thought about taking the bus out and driving the car back - then I thought again! That would be a LONG drive in an unproven vehicle with no A/C in high summertime across Southern Arizona and New Mexico and a big chunk of Texas. So, that's why I'm checking car haulers!!!

Thanks for the lead on the truckers' forum. I'll check it out.
