Spanish....

If you moved to Mexico I would say learn to speak it.if you live in the USA he needs to speak it or go back were he came from:protest::protest::angryfir::angryfir: and that's what I think.................Artie

The problem here with Artie's quote is Artie grew up and lives in a section of America that ONLY speaks English. With that in mind, when someone comes to his side of the world, they should be able to AT LEAST understand some English. I would not go to China without knowing a few key words, like HELP, Bathroom, American consulate, Police, Where the Hookers at?

In a way I do not blame Artie's words.

However, this has allllllways been a multi langue country. Do not forget, when in the earliest of days of this country, German was almost the national tongue. English squeaked by with a narrow margin.

You could try getting the Rosetta Stone program. I don't know what the cost is but it is more teaching by listening instead of intense book learning.

Expensive but worth it by everyone I ever met to use it.

The suggestion of books and TV is excellent to back up the R Stone program IMO.

I'm pretty sure English is considered a Germanic language, even though it has taken many words from "romance" languages, and many other languages as well.

Germanic, yes, but there is also another name for the base type of language it is called, it escapes me at the moment. It is in line with Galic (SP?) Irish and Scoot's speak it.

Lastly, IMO, someone else said it before me, but YEA! By all means, learn it and step up in your in-laws eyes and hearts. Then, maybe you'll find more than just a stranger on the other side of the line.

Go for it!!!!!
