NHRA wheel stud rule ? A litle confusing

The thread engagement on all wheel studs to the lug nut, or lug bolts to
wheel hubs, must be equivalent to or greater than the diameter of
the stud/bolt. Length of the stud/bolt does not determine
permissibility. (Example: A 7/16-inch stud must be thoroughly
engaged through the threads in the hex portion of the lug a
minimum of 7/16-inch.)

from 2012 Nhra rule book...

the stud does not need to go thru the open end of the lug nut....must engage the hex part of the head of the lug by at least the diameter of the stud...as noted in the example....my 71 demon with strange brakes and 3 inch studs do not go thru the end of the lug nut...passed tech in Vegas, Fallon and now Sacramento.
