Hi Guys,

i´v got a 1968 Valiant 2dr sedan, factory power front disc brakes (KH Setup), rear end is a Ford 8.8 with discs.

My new engine does not make enough vacuum for the power brake booster, it does not work properly.

So i´d like to change the setup to manual master cylinder and loose the power equipment. I read that i need a new master, new pushrod, and an adapter to mount the new 2 bolt master cylinder to the firewall.

Can somebody tell me the partnumbers for these parts? I´d like to verify what i´ve read online with first hand experience.

Also, what size diameter master is better suited? There is a 15/16" one and a 1 1/32" one available as far as i know. I tend to the smaller one due to higher brake pressure at given force from the foot...

Thanks for information!

Michael

Why not get a factory manual master cylinder that bolts right on? Wouldnt need the adapter and their like $20 from rockauto. as for the pushrod i dont know anything about that part lol

ok, if it´s that simple i´ll try this first. Do you know the bore size of this original manual master cylinder? And if i can use the existing "power" pushrod?

thanks, Michael

The pushrod has to be from a manual brake A body, the power one wont work. As for the master cyl you could use the one that is on the car now (assuming it's in working condition), if you decide to go with a new master cyl the smaller bore will give a lighter feel on the pedal. And there is no need to change to the two bolt style master cyl unless your looking to save some weight, the four bolt style will bolt right up to the firewall without any adapter.

I think they make electric vacum pumps and storage cannisters that solve this problem so u can keep your power brakes.

Daliant: Thanks! Do you know the bore size for the stock manual master cylinder? And do you know where to get the correct pushrod?

dbphemi: i know about this stuff, but don´t want to put more stuff in the engine compartment to fix it - better loose some weight and keep it simple.

Thanks guys!

Michael

Power brake cars usually have a small bore master cyl, could be 15/16" or 1".

Try putting an ad in the parts wanted section, I'm sure some body on here has an extra brake pushrod laying around.
