Hi,
Okay, I finally tired of my slant and have a 360 to drop in my !966 Valiant. I would like to know if the centerlink needs to be changed or will be okay as is? I have searched the internet and many forums and have conflicting info. Some say yes. Some say no.
Maybe someone on here has actually done this swap(surely) and can give me some first hand advice. Remember that it is a 1966. They were kinda different from many other years. Even had one person say that 1965 was the last year for 2 different centerlinks. Thanks for any help. Dennis

Just drop it in and see how it sits. Even if it doesn't have the drop center link, you could shim the motor mounts about 3/8" and get enough clearance that way, it's what I did.

it depends, my 66 dart already had the drop drag link and it was a factory 225/904 setup. So after days of piling through junkyards i found the magical drop drag link from a 66 barracuda, only to find out mine already had one. so i have an extra if you need it. I assume because of the changes that came in 67 the 66 parts were being used up explaining why some slant cars got the v8 link. Also, the car oil pans that everyone claims are the same, theyre not. on the drivers side right behind the sump, there needs to be a small dimple to clear the drag link. Not all pans have this dimple. Also, schumacher mounts set the engine higher in the bay just enough where the governor arm/kickdown arm adjuster block/jamming bolt on the trans may interfere with the floor. Once again, ball peen or modify the floor for clearance if this is the case. Exhaust manifolds (if you decide against headers) are tricky, ive read 340 manifolds will fit, in my case im running a 74 dart 360 drivers side mannie, with a sweet manufacturing steering u-joint coupler. clears by about 1/4 inch. passengers side is fairly easy, i used a truck manifold from my 73. also 360 sized ports but it doesnt have the cast ribs, seems wierd to me but hey it works. my setup is a zero decked 318 short block with 360 top end backed with a lockup 904. another cool thing is in 66 dodge went to the splined driveline yoke at the trans and retained that until the late 80s so driveline setups are easier to do than the pre-66 ball and trunnion monsters. any other questions feel free to ask.
