so i currently have American Racing OutlawI's on my 70 dart. 14" rims. i plan to use RMS front and rear suspension on my car. Originally i planned on gettin the same whels, but larger since RMS requires 17" minimum. Turns out, OutlawI's only come in 14" and 15". so im on the hunt for a different rim. I like the gloss black spoked Torq Thrust M, butr i want to get other opinions. the pics below are how the car is planned to look like when finished so anyone with photoshop and time, id appreciate examples by using these pics. otherwise gimme some ideas!

Also, im not sure on what tire size ill run. i want somethin reletively beefy. I love the look of white letterin but im thinkin with the 17" wheel i may not have enough sidewall for it. dont want to lok like a monster-car. am i worrrying over nothing?

id ask badlilred79 , im not sure if he still has the car but im pretty sure it was a 67 dart vert with 17's or 18's on it with stock wheelwells(i think) , he'd probably be able to help , he has quite the stable of nice cars from what ive seen on here

i think something with black centers would look great on that car...

what wheels are you running? and did you opt out of white lettering or was it not possible?

The gloss black Torq Thrust M's are basically my fall back since i knoiw they would look cool but i wanna get other ideas to play with

mine are the 2001 mustang wheels from americanmuscle.com. 17x8 with 5.72 back space.

the tires i had didn't come in white letter. i didn't want white letters either. wouldn't look right on my car in my opinion.

I gotta agree with abodyjoe, black will look badazz on that Dart! I like the anthrocite on my Duster too.

i do like the idea of pretty much anything gloss black with chrome, as it would match the hood and stripe nicely and help to accent the bright color

Summit makes a pretty nice torque thrust knock off, I run the 17x9" version with 5" of backspace on my Challenger, but they have 17x8's and a couple of backspace options. Considering the price they're pretty good quality, I like 'em.

Motech has some pretty good TT knock offs black, grey, or shiny for about 125 a wheel in 17s and a bit more if you go with 18s.

Hmmm hadnt considered a slotted mag. Ill have to see what I think if it but the more I see TTs the more I grow fond of the appearance an color symmetry to the car haha. Keep en comin!

Nothing beats the classic slot style rims in my book. American racing A697865 it is a 17X8" 5 on 4.5 with 4.5"backspacing. I have found them for around $150 per rim.

The way I read RMS's tech page I don't think any of the 17" slotted mags will work on the front with the alterkation. Not enough backspace - will stick out too far. I'm currently deciding on wheels tires as well and I have an alterkation up front.

well there goes that!

The issue as I understand it is that you can only go "out" 2.5" on an A-body with an Alterkation because you'll hit the fender.

From the RMS page, Abody Joe, other members etc the Mustang Bullit 17 x 8 with 5.72" BS will fit perfectly. On the front, with the alterkation, I'm taking this to mean with no spacers - just as is. The problem I'm running into is that many of the classic wheels I'm looking for, in 17" diamter, do not have backspacing that deep. I'm fond of the Classic V by ET Wheels, but like many of the wheels I'm looking at that deep of a backspacing does not exist. If I am wrong, and a 17 x 8 with 4.5" BS or 5 1/8" BS will bolt right on up front and look good (not stick out past the fender line) then someone please speak up because that means I'm worrying for nothing.

Sorry to mini-hijack the thread, you just happening to be asking questions that are right at the top of my mind and I want you to be aware of the issues, as I understand them, with front wheel sizing for the ALterK.

Let's hope I'm wrong and some of the common backspacing for classic 17" rims will fit up front!

Since this goes along with the OP's question I'll ask mine differently.

Is anyone out there running a 17" wheel up front on an Abody with an Alterkation and NOT using the 17 x 8 with 5.72 backspace of the Mustang Bullit wheels?

If so what size are you running? Personally I think 7" or 8" widths up front would look and perform well. Just concerned that popular BS, like 4.5", will result in the tire sticking out past the fender line.

In a 17 x 7 or 17 x 8 wheel what is the min BS you can go with up front and still look right (not stick out)?

I fought on what wheel to use for a long time but $$$$ was an issue for me.Ended up ordering these showwheels thrashstar 17X7 with 4.25 backspace

I don't know what kind of backspacing the RMS needs. But I know most people who run 17" wheels run a 245/45/17 or a 245/40/18 for 18" wheels. That's going to get you as tall as a tire as you're going to get. With some minor modifications you can fit a 275/40/17 or 275/35/18 tires all the way around with the 17" and 18" wheel respectively. They are just as tall as the 245 series tires.

Here are some pictures...

I believe these are Mustang wheels:

These are 18" wheels, 245/40/18x8 in the front and 275/35/18x9 in the back. I believe all he did was roll the fenders or cut the rear quarter panel wheel lip:

Those look pretty sweet. So with an Alterkation up front and 4.25" backspacing on a 7" wide wheel you are fitting correctly?

On an RMS AlterKtion front suspension, the ideal rim size for 17's is the 17x8 with 5.75" backspace. i have not yet tried to see if 17x9's fit. I will play with that later. 18x9 will fit though.

just found out RMS offers a brake kit for that only requires 15s! very cool since i like the look of sidewall and white letters out and such. still been looking at rims, magnum 500 look alright.

if i go 15-17" is there and improvment on ride or handling? would a 15 ride worse that a 17?
