There is a knocking sound when I drive it. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side rear area. It has been doing this for a while. You can't really hear it when you are driving faster, but it is pretty loud and noticeable when driving around 5 to 20 mph.

I thought that maybe the parking brake is hanging up, but when I pull the brake lever when the car is moving, the sound is still there.

It sounds like something is hitting every time the wheel spins around. I think it goes faster when you drive faster. Could it be the drive shaft or something in the wheel?

I would pull the tire off and try a different one, could be separated, Maybe run it with your spare tire on it and see if it still does it. Do you have rallye rims? Maybe you have a trim ring that creaks or the center cap is loose? Also snug up the lug nuts, gotta rule stuff out and you should find it.

Can you jack up the rear of the car and spin the wheels to hear it?

Running bolt pattern/wheel adapters ? Loose lugs ? A bad drum or broken spring inside can make noises too. You'll have to get it up and turn it one wheel at a time to start. Exactly where it is first, then on to what it is. Good luck

Good advice above........also make sure you pull the drum when the wheel is off and make sure no brake hardware is floating around.

RedFish beat me....:D.

Yeah I'll pull each rear wheel off and take a look. I have the stock rims. The rings and caps seem tight but I'll double check.

No it is all stock. I'll check the torque. I've never worked on drum brakes before, just discs. I have the shop manual so hopefully it explains it ok.

Just make sure the parking brake is off and pull/wiggle it toward you. If it's been a while since they were off, a rubber hammer persuader will usually get it done. Just don't apply the brakes while it's off. And limit how much brake dust you inhale.....as in zero if possible.

Thanks for the tips!

I found out what it was. It was the center hub cap that was loose.

Thanks again for the help.
