to paint or not to paint '68 Dart

I would flat clear it and leave it.. Once you paint it you will want to change the wheels and the cash keeps on going.. You have a great car like it is and runs strong.. I say leave it and enjoy it...

Just looking for some feedback here about whether I should paint my car. I like it kind of rough, because it's like me, kind of rough around the edges. I drag raced it this year for the first time with the Classic Gearjammers of NC, and had the most fun I've ever had. Also, my 4 year old son enjoys working on the race car with me and I don't have to worry about the paint. But I have guys ask me at the races when I'm going to paint it. Your opinion would be appreciated.
I got the same thought and this is what i am doing. Ihave a 66 formula s cudda since high schooland iam 65 now. This is a 4 speed car. I put two coats of black epoxy primer, sanded it went to my local John Deere store and bought a gallon of blitz black paint it looks liike satin hot rod paint and only coast 35.00 a gallon. It dries very hard . They use it on their tractor frames in the 90 s. Put a scoop on the hood with the orginal body color racing strips and it look rugged. Just a thought, good day. tom

Paint it! It deserves that much respect. If you really like it rough looking Why not just hit it with a hammer & clear coat over any rust.

Am I the only one that noticed the Chebby rims up front ?

Those bother me,more than the paint.

They got to go !!!!

I think they might be spare tire rims from a late model car. Chevy has a 4.75" bolt circle, he would have to have adapters or re-drill the rotors.

You had fun with the old paint ....if you want to stay on a budget do what I did to a 318 Polly 2 obbligatos daily driver ...prime it like the 68 HEMI DART

Paint won't slow you down...but it sure as hell doesn't make you go any faster. It's your car man. A few K in paint won't be near as much fun as a few K in motor work

With the e-coat, primer, light filler, base coats, and the clear coats you end up between 6-15 lbs of weight added...

Supposedly the original German "silver" Auto Union race cars, actually were bare metal as they were overweight for their class, so the paint was sanded off between the qualifiers and the race to lighten the cars down to the minimum weight.

And remember a smooth glossy finish with have less wind resistance than a flat finish.

I would keep the car as is...and crudly up the front wheels, they look just too darn nice!

I should have never painted my car. It will be sitting for a few years before I get around to working on it but I just think it was a mistake. Live on a dirt road and absolutely DESPISE cleaning a car. Our drivers get washed and waxed once a year, whether or not they need it.......
