help pick 17"ers on a 70 Swinger

You definitely are not using the full capability of the front suspension if you stay with a 15 inch wheel. there are currently no performance handling tires available in a 15...I would definitely go with a 17 inch wheel...that is the perfect size...

Well the only reason I was thinkin bout a smaller rim was for white letter, since with a 17 I'd need a lower profile tire. Not a huge deal just I like the old school look

just picked up a pair of these, the tires are 245/45/17's.........had to make sure they fit, and they do......really well............

picking up a couple more for the frt. when i'm out i cally next month....the 17x7's and the 17x8's are the same price.......18's are a little more....

pics kind of give u a good idea of old school 14"ers, and new look 17's..........

I don't know what kind of backspacing the RMS needs. But I know most people who run 17" wheels run a 245/45/17 or a 245/40/18 for 18" wheels. That's going to get you as tall as a tire as you're going to get. With some minor modifications you can fit a 275/40/17 or 275/35/18 tires all the way around with the 17" and 18" wheel respectively. They are just as tall as the 245 series tires.

Here are some pictures...

I believe these are Mustang wheels:

These are 18" wheels, 245/40/18x8 in the front and 275/35/18x9 in the back. I believe all he did was roll the fenders or cut the rear quarter panel wheel lip:

full RMS suspension and 17" bullits. the ride you will get from suspension will more than offset the ride of the tires no doubt. do the bigger brakes and 17's,you can thank me later! lol! i am actually working on going up to 18" for next season.

...if i go 15-17" is there and improvment on ride or handling? would a 15 ride worse that a 17?

The 15" wheel is better for ride due to a taller tire sidwall offering more "give", and for the same reason, the 17" wheel will offer better handling because of a shorter, stiffer tire sidewall. Your choice of coilover spring rate on the AlterKtion will also have an effect on both ride and handling.
It's all a compromise on what you're looking for.

With a 15" wheel on the Alterkation you are pretty much stuck with a very skinny tire up front. That's my current understanding.

You are allowed ~2.5" out before you hit the fender and 3.25" in before you hit the tie rod on the Alterkation. So with the perfect sized/BS wheel you are looking at 5.75". 17" will clear the tie rods. I'm pretty sure that tie road restriction exists regardless of the brakes chosen.

I personally really like the look of the 15" or 16" wheel. I'm just bummed that I have to run a pizza cutter in that diameter wheel.

In 17" you have to go with major basckspace to get a wider wheel (5.75" as others stated). There are wheels I like in the 17" range that are not available with this deep of a backspace.

I really hoped my wheel/tire combo options would be wide open with the AlterK but the wider track up front on the A body does pose some issues with available sizes.

Plan carefully!

Are there any more pics of that gun metal 68 Dart with all black wheels? One of the things I am not too fond of are the gun metal or matte black wheels with the polished lip. I'd prefer the entire wheel, including the lip, is matte. Wonder where those are from?? Paint color may be identical to my 69.
