factory cassette recorder

I'm mainly looking for the offset pedstal bracket and plastic cover for a floor mount 4 speed A body (The one shown on the right). I already have a console mount set-up,( not shown) and the other style floor mount,( the one shown on the left) that is not off-set, that I belive was used in C bodys. I would trade some of these pecies to get the one I need like the one pictured on the right. I also have an extra head unit, cord, and NOS microphone too trade.

Do you know if anybody still refurbishes the cassette players? Wards Classic Car Radio stopped repairing/refurbishing them unfortunately.
The one on the left (in your picture) is what came in my 71 Duster 4spd car, its not offset. My car is an original R26 AM cassette car.

Can't help you with the pieces you need but I am interested in this thread as I have a 72 cuda with console mount recorder that I would like to get repaired if some one can chime in.

I don't know of anyone any longer who will work on these. I repaired my own two units, as they both only needed new drive belts inside. "318demon340", you say your car had the one that is not offset? How did it fit the floor hump correctly? I have that pedstal now and it dosent sit correctly in a 4 speed car with the wider tunnel. Not even close! I was told by, a few people, that the A body 4 speed cars used the off-set pedstal. I'd be interested in seeing a picture of yours sitting on your floor hump if you have a 4 speed car. Also I was looking at your picture, and is your radio bracket ( that cradles the head unit) a home made one? It looks to be missing the rear tabs to secure the housing, and some small holes in the side that original ones have?.....just curious

FanofPetty, its all original. Heres a pic of it installed along with a pic of it before resto )at the orig owners house). The factory screwed it onto the tunnel using 4 sheet metal type screws. You can see it sits in the center of the hump, and always has in my car. I can't say what one is correct for 4spd Dusters, just that this one came in my car originally. I believe Wards may still have some of the service parts for them. If you need any other pics of mine let me know.

I can't tell in your picture, but did the plastic pedstal (curve at the bottom) meet the carpet good? The pedstal I have has way to much of a gap (acrh) to look correct, and thats when a I got checking around and a few folks said that the off-set pedstal is whats correct for a 4 speed A body car. Do you have any other close up pictures?

Sorry, had the flu for a few days... You are right about the gap. When mines in stalled it has about a half inch gap between the unit and the carpet. Almost like the carpet should be cut out to get it to fit right. But mine was mounted on top the carpet originally. The gap is even on both sides though. If I can get the original owner to answer my phone calls I will try to confirm if mine had ever been changed out.

I may need some parts to put my original one back in my 71 Challenger convert.

all above from the 71 part book dated January 1972 unless noted otherwise

The plastic shrouds were only serviced in black as replacements GX9 is black G is the year and X is black,9 is how dark it is.

The microphone had one change as the cord was either coiled or not.

These are the only things related to the recorder I can find.

NOTE: Except for the 1971 book which shows a DUAL AUDIO/INPUT 3501053 radio

there is NO mention of any radios for the 72-73 A Body models used /cassettes in

the part book. Also the shrouds for the A bodies only show up in the 1971 book. So

according to the part books the recorder was only available in the 1971 A bodies.

I had years ago the microphones /coiled cables and some of the shrouds that I ordered when they were available. Long gone now!

The microphone coiled cords were the factory replacements microphones. The straight cords are what they originally.

Both my demon and my duster have them. One 4spd and one auto. They are identical brackets. The carpet is cut and they are mounted to the floor. There two indents in the floor where they mount.

Are both of yours the offset pedstal, or the other pedstal ?

"Oldman mopar", could you post a pic. of both of your cassette players mounted in your cars? I'm especially interested in the 4 speed set-up. Thanks !

This is the setup I'm looking to complete. I was told by some members about 'Harms" and how he supposedly reproduces these plastic pecies, but when I called there, the gentleman said he did not have any at this time, that he wanted to sell, but may make some, and to call back in a couple weeks.
Did you ever call back about these? I would try if you gave his info to me.

thanks, but I have everything to complete what I needed.thanks to another member on here. I no longer have Harms phone number, but they have a web site so just google it, and the phone number is on there I belive.

no not yet, as I'm working on using the original plastic peices to make prototypes, so through the winter I will go ahead and install this in my car.

there's usally one or two on Ebay for sale....just keep checking. I have a second unit, but have promised another member first shot at it when I get ready to sell it.

here is the one in the Duster . It is the one out of the 4spd. Demon I am using it in the duster until I redo the other housing someone painted it green. I mounted a CD player in it no mods had to be done bolted right in the housing. The Auto one is in the cabinet . The intents are also on the hump on the 4spd. car.
