Decided it was time to redo a couple really old workbenches. I bought these from a closing Mopar dealer so they're special LOL. I'm guessing these are from the 60's or maybe the 70's

These benches weigh a ton and after pricing new ones (sticker shock), I figured they were worth a freshen up...

These old work benches are so so hard to find these days, I was helping (driving a 2 ton ) move a friend of my son, and his father and I spotted a work bench about like that
one and it had a note on it Not to be moved.. Thank you. The owner of the building would not part with it.... it had a built in Michigan stamped on it.
I would guess it was built in the 50'es. It looked like it was made for water because
in front of the back splash it had a row of of maybe 8 to ten 1/4'' holes on both sides

There's nothing like a good heavy bench. Load em up or beat on em.....no worries!

You ain't kidding........these things have been thru plenty of car wars and lotsa hammers :violent1:

Spent a few hours scraping crud and years of grime off. Then disassembled and shipped them off to my local powder coater. I wish Leanna's shop was closer :protest:. There was NO way these were gonna get shipped LOL

I soaked all the hardware in degreaser, then spent some quality time with the wire wheel.....

FUN :happy1:

I made my bench out of an old fire door. Solid wood, but Im not able to beat on it with a hammer. But I can drill holes in to secure bench grinders and such. A good bench is tops on the list of must haves, along with a good vise! Ill be on the lookout for one of these for a second bench.

Looking good. I scored some work benches from Mercrusier over the years. I was hoping to score some more when they pulled out of here but I couldn't go to the auction.

Those are great solid benches C, and Mikes right, they are getting very hard to find. I had the chance to score a 12' x 4' stainless steel bench from a dairy but I couldn't talk the guy down past a 100 bucks. Now I'm kicking myself in the *** for being such a cheap ***, lol.

I agree about these old benches Mike. I can't remember what I paid for them as it was quite awhile ago and I bought alot of stuff all at once.

Interesting about the bench with the holes in the backsplash. Wonder what it was used for.......

looks great so far!!! Keep em comin!!!

Thanks MD

Both of these have holes from a vise and grinders being mounted. They'll be mostly covered up again with more of the same.

Looks great C! After coating them I would be too worried bout beating on them....probably turn them into a bunk bed if I could fit on it!

First project for my new welder, a good solid metal bench. Had one when I lived in AZ, no room for it in the moving truck or the storage unit so I gave it to a neighbor. Thing was a heavy sob.

So what's it like to have your car to the point where your highest priority is you workbench? Must be a nice car.

thought he was talking about the workbench in the bedroom lol

SOLID can see my vise on one side and drill press next to it and u can still tack to it to weld or peg bend a peice

Pardon me for drooling over your "new" benches!! I'm always on the lookout for quality bench and cabinet units for the shop...but seldom ever finding them!!

Ummm.... nice job painting the trailer too by the way!! Your trailer redo inspired me to redo mine as well... heres a pic!!

Have a great time with your project, and Nella sends out a HUGE cyber hug to y'all!! Geof

Thx Okla.....An auction would be a good place to find some too!!

WOW $100 for a stainless bench. Turn around...I'm kicking you in the *** too ROFL ;-)

Just kiddin' Joe.....Thx and yes, these are solid and well seasoned.

Thx 4spd........I'm not worried about using 'em like they're meant to be used. They should be almost indestructible now

Nice of you to give your bench to the neighbor. Share some pics when you build yours.....I'd love to see it :thumleft:

When you're done they'll be so purdy you won't want to use them, LOL.

LOL.......No, not that purdy........they'll get used.

Yep, gonna mount a vise on one and a grinder on the other. Thx winston

It feels good that the car is almost, kinda, pretty much done. They're never really done though are they?
