I'm looking for a Mr.Gasket 4-spd V-gate shifter for an A-body. I would be interested in the whole set-up over even just the correct linkeage for an A-body. Please let me know if there are any out there. Thank you

Just bought a '73 Dart Sport Saturday that has the shifter you want, I think. I'd prefer a regular shifter, such as a Hurst or something, so if you have one to trade or something, let me know.

FYI Linkage kits used to be available from Hurst.
I bought a kit from them 3 years ago. I had a Mr. Gasket V-gate shifter.
These are fun shifters.

Thanks for the reply. I have to see what I have for trade. If not, I would be interested in buying it. Can you take some pictures for me? Let me know. Thanks!

Heres the pics as requested
has correct a-body 833 mount
i didn't have spare rods but they are not hard to get.
PM ME IF YOU NEED MORE INFO
JOE
LAST PIC IS HURST GATE IN MY DART
LOVE IT FUN TO FLY THROUGH THE GEARS ESPECIALLY UP AGAINST THOSE FOX BODIES...

Thanks for the pictures Joe.

Please tell me if I'm correct....I'm assuming all the shifters are the same for all Mopars, just that the mount and linkage is different for say an A-body vs. B-body??

Where can I get linkage for it? I looked on Hurst's website and they don't sell it anymore. I'm not sure the linkage is as readily available as it used to be

you are correct, A & B are different, shifter is the same.
I called the Hurst techline when I ordered my last kit.

How do these work? What makes them different?

The shifting pattern is in a straight line rather than an "H" pattern. It is a lockout shifter to you will never miss a gear. You would pull back on the shifter for 2nd and then straight back up for 3rd and straight back for 4th.

They are alot of fun and a different look, however I'm sure they can be a pain on the street like people say :) :burnout:

Basically, it's just an "H" pattern shifter, the mechanism is just 'rotated' 90* clockwise and has a separate spring loaded rod that has to be pulled up to down shift to 1st or 2nd. For upshifting, it's just in-line as was said. I've been running V-Gates since the '70's, and I love them. I've got one in my '67 GMC pickup with a Super T-10 right now, and I'm in my '60's. Once you get used to it, it's as natural as can be.

Russ.

x2 ONCE I LEARNED IT I LOVED IT. I HATE DRIVING A STANDARD H PATTERN. I NEVER HAVE ISSUES ON THE STREET. ITS EASY TO DOWNSHIFT.

Jos51700,

Not quite. It's not that easy. The "Gate" in V-Gate is when you have to pull up to down shift to first or second. When you are in a forward gear, it locks out reverse, which is a seperate lever anyway. When in reverse, it locks out moving the other lever into any forward gears. You still have to pull into second like a regular H pattern shifter, push into third and pull back to fourth. You can miss a gear just like any other shifter if you don't complete the shift. The difference is going from second to third it drops down all by itself, you don't have to worry about downshifting back into first. There is no movement of the shifter handle from right to left or vice-versa. It's all done by the "Gate".

As far as I know, all V-Gate shifters are the same, just the linkage and mountings are different. The early V-Gates did not have the over shifting adjusting bolts on them.

Russ.

Edit: The V-Gate shifters I'm talking about here is the original Mr. Gasket V-Gate shifters.

I have one in my 340 Duster and love it. All I need is the boot and can't find one. I had one in 1970 in my first Duster and they are bad to the bone when running someone. If you do miss a gear you are not foot hand cordinated enough and need pratice. i have flipped the thought around about changing to a automatic but just love my Mr Gasket V Gate. Try it you won't be sorry.

Yeah I have been wanting to put it in my car since I put the 4spd in. I have a bench seat in the car now, and it won't work. So i'm going to to be changing over to buckets and need to put this in. I need the mount and linkage!

FYI, I saw one on Ebay. I dont know it it was original or the thick after market, just saw it and remembered seeing your post about needing one.

Ok so I know it's a total long shot, but was wondering if maybe there is anyone out there that would be willing to let me borrow their A-body mount and linkage so I was make a pattern and copy it? I have everything else...just need the mount and linkage. I really don't want to spend $400 for a whole setup.

I'm sure it is a little far fetched, but i guess it doesn't hurt to ask! :prayer:
