I have the pumpkin and gears just looking for a 8 3/4 out of an A with SBP axles. What is a realistic price for something like this if I am not in a hurry?

I've seen them advertised for anywhere from $250-400. A lot depends on if they have the brake assemblies with all the parts in good shape. Since your not in a hurry post a want ad in the want ad forum stating you want one close enough that you can go pick it up (if you don't mind doing that) cause that'll save you a bundle.

I had to buy the whole car, 66 barracuda, it had 3.23 suregrip 489 case and sbp axles paid $800 for
the car pulled the rearend put the 7.25 I had back under it and sold the car for 800. So look around you may get lucky.

check phoenix az craigslist. Theres a bunch on there less than 200.

well I paid 200.00 last year for a housing and axels, no center chunk, and it was only an hour away from me so I went and picked it up. I'm guessing that was a good deal by what I see the prices are on ebay.....

If I could get one locally for 200 I'd be all over it!! 4 years ago before they shot up I got one complete, incl shock mounts, housing, 3.23 single sides, 742 case chunk, drums, backing plates etc. What the guy had done was drop the whole rearend with everything all at once, even the ebrake cables. I had to go pick it up but it was only $325.
I would expect to pay $425-$500 plus now

im running into the same issue. i bought a C body rear complete from drum to drum with a 742 center chunk for $100. the plan is to narrow the axle. this chunk will be ideal for what i plan on doing with it, a 489 chunk isnt necessary. i will prob send the center to moser to be narrowed to A body width $140 plus shipping. not too happy about that, but as a gutted housing it shouldent be too costly to ship. so i will be into it for $300,

plus after i priced cutting and resplining the C body axles, checking for straightness, magnafluxing, new studs and green bearings i would be into the old C axles for $300. at this point i decided to just buy new A body axles that are NHRA approved with studs and bearings installed for $340

i still need to get 3.55 or 3.73 gears the jurys still out on which set i will choose, a suregrip center, and the bearings and shims to set it up. bottom line is building one of these is an expensive proposition. especially for me since i live out in the middle of nowhere in abilene texas. the swap meets are far and few inbetween, everybody else chooses brand X. only a few other mopar guys out here ,and this stuff is like gold to them.

one guy i know has a 70 340 duster thats totally shot, framerails rotted thru in the back, but has the 8.75 rear with 3.55s and the suregrip. he wont sell me the axle :(

hope this helps, i needed to rant too

If you want to stick with SBP, you gotta find an A rear.

Going BBP
66-67 is the next best option 59.5

68-70 are slightly wider than the 66-67 rears 60.125

Just started looking around here (South Dakota, Iowa, Neb)on Craigslist didn't find much, one for $300 doesn't say a year, and one on the other side of the state with sbp, no price listed, guess I will have to start hitting up my gearhead buddies see if they know of anyone that might have something laying around. Still on the fence on rear end swap, like the highway gears (2.67 or something like that)but would be nice to have something a little more dependable than the 7.25, have a clunk in mine when turning, have thought about having 7.25 rebuilt but put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig, besides 8.75 parts would be easier to get, correct?

I am negotiating a deal with a local guy who has a sbp A body 8.75 rear from a 67 cuda. . I am keeping center chunk and housing. I have no need for the sbp axles, or 10" rear drums. I go and look at it this weekend. What are the sbp axles and drums worth? Anybody here interested in them. I'd like to sell them and recoup some of my money. I also have a Complete C body 8.75 rear drums included minus the center chunk if anybodys interested

Matt

Modify a b body by moving the perches in .5 inches. That will help keep the cost way down. Just increase the backspacing on the wheels to compensate I did it on my 67 barracuda and it worked great. The whole thing was less than $200. Welded it myself.

Sorry to hijack the thread but new here and new at the forums and can't seem to figure out how to sart a new one. Anyway I'm also looking for an 83/4 for my 71 swinger. Any one have one they want to part with. With the small bolt pattern?

May have A body sbp axles and 10" drums to sell if i can get this 8.75 rear i want. Anybody interested in these parts? I am going bbp and have no use for these axles and drums.

Thanks
Matt

I sold for housings for $275 each, sbp axles for $80/ pr and drum setups complete for $80/pr at Carlisle this past summer.
