tac mounts lets see them

Anyone know if there is a pillar molding for gauges that will fit an a body

I tried looking for one last year to no avail, I ended up getting a street rod shop to fabricate a bracket to fit perfectly on my A pillar molding using the existing mounting screw to avoid disturbing the molding in anyway. It turned out amazing, but was expensive, it was done on a machine thats controlled by a computer, similiar to the way custom aluminum or billet wheels are done.

here is the one i built.

this one puzzles me
obviously you went through a lot of trouble to build the dash and install the gauges
why not arange it in a way that the tach would also fit in there?

not double guessing your methods, just wanting to know the reasoning behind it
(i like the cleaner look of the tach in the dash like some of the aftermarket dash units you see)

I hand made the gauge pod. and mounted the Tach to the console. Primarily because I didnt want it on the dash and because someone had drilled a hole on the console top plate so I figured Id use it! I love it... (it is of course pointed up at the driver now! :)

If you paid to have it made, it wouldn't be very expensive to make more and sell them...

I like to use one of the factory screws that mounts the instrument bezel.
You will need a little longer screw to make it work. No drilling,no fuss.Goes right back to stock if you want.Puts the tach in a very good spot.

ran out of room. that and i wanted the tach up in plan sight. dont want to have to look down and watch the revs. i have a speedo and five gauges in the dash. if i added the tach i would have to look all the way to the glove box to see my gauges.

There is a stud welded to floor under the carpet this one is attached to:

No pic, but back in the early 70s I mounted the tach in my 340 Swinger one of the screws in the bracket for the sunvisor and the shoulder harness buckle by the top of the A-pillar. Didn't have to drill any extra holes and it was very easy to see since it was just above eye level.
Turned out to be too easy for the cops to see too since I got stopped and was told it blocked my vision (really didn't). So I wired in a pin connector so I could unplug the tach, take it down and store it in the glovebox if necessary. I did that when I got the 'fix-it' ticket cleared, pulled out of the police station parking lot, put the tach back up, plugged it in and went on my way.

i will be using this 1 its
vintage and i like it
