I'm pricing out doing a magnum conversion on my 72 dart right now and I'm stuck on the torque converter and flywheel. I want to put in a 98 Magnum 360 which I know will bolt up to my a904 but I can't figure out what torque converter to get? It's only going to be street driven. Also will my current flywheel work with only have to notch one hole or do I need to get one specific to a 360?

ok..you do not have a flywheel..you have a flex plate.

the LA 360 and the magnum 360 are both externally balanced...

but they are balanced different...each takes a different amount of weight...the magnum uses less..

b&m at one time made a flex plate that would work...they dont any more...

i believe some people use the flex plate from a earlier magnum that has the weights on it..but requires one of the holes for converter to be elongated...

96 and up are balanced with weights ON the flexplate, in this situation use a converter that has NO Weights on it for neutral balance

the mounting holes will be dead on except one which you will have to hog out to be able to bolt all 4 holes

when you get the assembly all set up it will be easy to see what you will have to do

I picked up a 96, 360 magnum flexplate from a boneyarrd for 35 bucks

so the real cost when mating a 360 mag to a 904 is for a neutral balance converter(No weights on it)

B and M made a plate at one time but it is no longer available

yes sorry I do mean flex plate, shows how much I know :newb: lol

I looked but I didn't know if there was any difference in getting a torque converter for this swap. Makes sense now thanks.
Now all I have to do is figure out what torque converter to get.

Any neutral balance converter will do, if you ask here for advice on which converter to get you will get a dozen different answers....I would contact a few converter manufacturers directly .... They will take all your drive train info from you and come up with a workable solution. This is what they do 24/7 , have done it for others thousands of times and their input will be much more valuable than someone who read a book/magazine on the subject and suddenly they were an expert...........
