Has anyone tried any of the new fangled Craftsman tools that they are advertising. They always push these around Fathers' Day and Christmas. Like the one's that replace 100 sockets, etc. I'm just wondering if they're worth the $$ they're charging. I'd hate to throw good money after bad as my father used to say.

Buy the sockets and ratchet like have gotten the job done for 100 years....

Good ole traditional tools. My wife always asks, "do you want one of those for Christmas"? Me, no.

Just curious, the socket was a new tool at some point. I'm generally not an early adopter of things and that can lead me to miss out on some useful tools. Always looking for something to keep in the car that will help in a tight spot but doesn't require me to empty all of my tool drawers into the trunk.

i was a die hard craftsman tool guy...everything i have owned is craftsman...i hated snap on their prices were ridiculous. now, craftsman quality went to **** and most all they have is chinese now...so, once in a great while, when i find a good deal on ebay for used snap on tools, i jump on it. they are most usually in like new condition.

sorry to go off topic, i haven't used those ones yet. the black ratchet they have seems to be pretty decent..

I don't know if these re the tools you are referring to, but he reviews seem to be mostly positive for this set..85 five stars, 21 four stars....

Well for that they might serve the purpose.

Many years ago I used to call on Channellock for an industrial magazine. One of the directors told me they were approached by the manufacturer of the black laminated pliers that Craftsman now sells and they turned them down. Channellock then tried to market a 'less expensive' pliers through WalMart, etc., and I believe it bombed. Companies make mistakes when they compromise the quality that helped build the brand.

I worked at Sears in 1991-1992 and at that time they started making some of their tools in China,I quit buying them back then.

Some are made in china, some are not. you just have to pay closer attention. The usa made craftsman are still good everyday tools

Right now some are made in USA and some in China. If it doesn't say USA on the tool it is import. Same with GearWrenches as they have gome to crap too. Broke a GearWrench yesterday that was right out of the package.

The store on Base sells Craftsman and every last bit of it is Chinese now:(. I still buy vintage Craftsman on Craigslist since it is good stuff.

Wow it looks like they finally got the hint and made the ratchet with a rounded handle....

I have a set of craftsman combination wrenches that say Made in Japan.

I have had those for many years now too.

For the last five years my father Law has bought me craftsman tools, When they break I just take them back and get a new one.

I got a craftsman set a couple years ago, some 300+ piece kit (lost my tool box in a garage fire, had to start over again). I've not had a problem with it. Even used a couple of their sockets on a 1/2" impact gun a few times without a problem. Like briankaplan said earlier, make sure you get the six point sockets. Just my two cents, sorry to hear others have had some problems.

I just purchased a new Craftsman hose clamp (corbin) pliers. When I went to use them yesterday I couldn't believe the poor quality. First the clip that holds on the gripping head falls off allowing the "gripper" to fall completely out of the tool. So, I fix that with a stronger e-clip.

Then when I go to use the pliers on the hose clamps the pliers metal arms bend. The arms got all distorted trying to open a radiator clamp. I literally had to keep bending them back into position to use it for removing four clamps. What a piece of garbage! I spent as much time fixing the junky tool as it took do remove the hoses.

It's going back to Sears tomorrow. So much for Craftsman quality. Sadly, I guess that's an oxymoron nowadays... [-(

Welcome to no longer made in the USA.
