Let's be honest about the holiday season
Our local fire department didn't even do there annual Santa on the firetruck ride thru the streets this year.
Wow, that bites!
In Schuyler County, NY, where I grew up, there's a program called Seneca Santa.
It provides toys to families who can't afford gifts. Every fire department is a participating member of the toy drive and the distributing of gifts. That's Watkins Glen, Montour Falls, Beaver Dams, Monterey, Burdett, Odessa, and I forget one...
Anyway, Christmas Eve is when Seneca Santa makes "his" run. Each fire department loads up the rescue squads with toys and delivers to the houses. "Santa" delivers "his" toys in firetrucks!
One year, as a kid, my family was blessed by this program. I can say from personal experience, as a nine year old, it was fun to see "Santa's" sleigh was a bright yellow firetruck!
