Ever read Cometic literature?
They're not supposed to be "treated" with anything, you put them on as you take them out of the package.
Don't use them if you don't have a good enough surface.
I use them on motorcycles regularly with zero issues (though I don't think I'd try them on my 40 year old smallblock without some great machine work done first).
