Thursday...

Last night parts arrived from Jegs, tie rod sleeves were part of them, I opened up the box and in both boxes were the wrong part. Sway bar bushing were in the each box. Called Jegs late last night, got shipping label to ship the old parts back for a refund. Called the 24 hr autozone that is close by, and they said they would have those at that store by 10 am...well, they called at 9am and they were there....

so now I am waiting for UPS,,,never know what time they show up...

So I work on the garage while waiting...I needed to wire some 220 voltfor my air compressor and welder, had the parts already. Now the big 3 head compressor works..wow..what a difference from the HF noisy thing.

Go back to the house and UPS man had delivered the goods.....finish up front end with new tie rod sleeves and poly strut rod bushing.....need to tighten the bolts down and not going to tighten the drag link...motor, trans and headers still gotta go in ...and hate to ruin the brand new rubber seals on them..

Steering box on ...got the adapter to put on...the steering column is coming out

Got the SS springs in with rear housing, had to wait for correct u bolts to come in today..

So I call Doctor Diff to order the large bolt axles...and the lady says he is in Vegas....I said I am in Vegas...Do you think he has a set of axles with him I ask....LOL

I will get the backing plates on the axles tomorrow...and remove seats also...see what surprise i can find under the seats and carpet.......

Regarding the SS springs, what do you use ? SUMMIT lists 2800 lbs springs and hemi springs 3000 lbs. What do you recommend?

Michael

Your getting the car ready quickly Tony.It won,t be long before you have it rewired and the engine sitting in there.:burnout:Do you run exhaust or just extensions?Always like the car **** LOL:D

Well..since this car is suppose to run in Sportsman class 12 flat and slower it is suppose to have mufflers on it...we will probably hit the test n tune with no exhaust and then put mufflers on it.

Got the 3rd member installed in the rear this morning...began removing carpet from car...OH GOD.....they glued the carpet and a sponge liner to the floor and each other...and got backing plates hanging on housing ends...

Found a couple of soft spots in the rust free car...LOL....cut them out...Will weld in patches on Monday...

bought one of those Min Scalers from HF,,,,wow...that thing kicks ***...used it to get between the floor and glued in sponge...

sorry no pictures today...forgot camera this morning...Will take a extra picture for you on Monday Scott....lol

Yes..once I get couple holes patched ...plan to remove old wiring harness...I already have the new one waiting in the box..also need to mount bucket seats, shifter, gauges, and switch panel while carpet is out.....Will need to order carpet kit in a week or two

with any luck might have this thing running by the end of the month...

I found your post the other day, extremely impressed with your build. Miles above my capability, have to pay someone to do most of my work.
I have a similar car 1971 Duster same blue color. Here are some of the specs. on the car: 360 cid motor was rebuilt before I bought the car, assume bored 0.030 over.
904 trans stock
Hutchison custom billet 3800-4000 stall converter
sub-frame connectors and 8 point roll cage
old bench seats removed & driver's bucket seat install
battery moved to truck
new SFI harmonic balancer
B & M launch control
Strange 35 spline axles with 4 1/2" B.C. with 3.91 gears ( 489 case)
engine upgrades:
set of "J" heads mildly ported with 2.02 intake & 1.60 exhaust valves
Mopar Perforance purple solid cam & lifters (don't know the specs.)
Edelbrock 340 Victor alum. intake manifold with Barry Grant 750 cfm Mighty Demon
Electric fan & Moroso electric water pump
running M/T 28 x 9 x 15 slicks
Best time to date is 12.91 @ 104 mph with a 1.8499 60 ft. time
Looking for ways to improve 60 ft. time
What type of shocks do you have on the car, would Cal-Tracs help my 60 ft. time?
Yours is a great build, look forward to hearing how you make out when you get it to the track

Right now...I dont have any shocks for the rear yet...going to have to see what is in the budget ..

was looking at them last night.....

rancho 9 way adjustables......100 bucks each
competition engr. 3 way 50 bucks each
mopar long shocks......... 39 bucks each...

take your pick...

Did alot of running around this morning...had to swap out empty bottle of gas for mig welder...then went to buy steel for frame connectors...the steel place moved...and they were near where I got the gas for the welder...dam...which makes them closer to home.....

Needed some sheet metal for the trunk and a couple of patches...after pricing out the stuff at lowes which turns to be expensive...bought a 4 x 8 sheet of 18 gauger for 42 dollars..

well...made a couple of frame connectors this afternoon...got them fitted..but did no welding since the welder is still in my garage at home..So tomorrow we get them burned in.....thinking about welding in some kicker pieces with the extra 2 x 3 square tubing for future roll bar ....

Nice.

Yeah steel supplies at HD or Lowes... you pay for convenience!

And the beat goes on..

Spend most of the time tonight...fitting and welding in the frame connector...did not get it all welded in...needed to change wire size... the .030 was blowing holes in the rear spring supports...dropping down to .023 tomorrow along with switching from 220v to 110v...needed to switch anyway to do trunk and patches.

Got email tonight with LVMS schedule...yeah..my opinion is sucks as usual...test n tune january 27...then nothing until March 21, Mopar at the Strip....

Nascar Weekend...Feb 17 to March 21..the strip will be closed....wtf weekend.....that is a month....

Well..probably going to slow down my self imposed dead line of end of the month...LOL

California Steel....on north commerce between cheyenne and cary...

they used to be on main street...

well..the only thing..i wanted two seven ft pieces...14 ft of square tubing...I had to buy the hole 20 ft bar...they cut it for me...it was $3.50 a ft...

I've been buying my steel from Highland Steel and you gotta buy it by the 20' length.

Ok...last time some one else bought the steel for me...lol

who had connections with Steel Engineers...contractor friend.

Gotta buy in 20' sticks to get a better price is usually the way it goes.

3.50 a foot isn't bad for 2x3x.120. I remember I could buy those 20' for around $35 a few years ago.

BTW...got my axles ordered today from Doctor Diff....should be able to finish off the rear end next week....

On Wednesday

got a couple of patches done..one more to do ...after working car all day..did not feel well that evening...decided to take Thursday off...and I had to take the cat to the vet...got in a fight..and had scratched his eye....well...cat's eye is fine....

Friday too cold...going to be too cold in vegas until the middle of next week...daytime highs in 40s...nights in 20s.....drained water out of 71 Dart in that garage today...So not doing much of anything until next week....

Gotta get over to the steel place and get some 1 x 1 square tubing to build support for fuel cell and build battery trays and hold downs...

But I probably going to need a factory service manual...LOL

Fed Ex stopped by today....

Got my Axles from Doctor Diff....ordered them on wednesday..
