i never really see anyone on here except maybe one or two running exhaust cutous. are they worth it even? id think that wierd part in the pipe causing restricted flow when ut is closed up. are there any power gains from using these if you cant jusy unbolt your system?

I can't speak from experience, but I have a general idea:

A: I can see cut outs give a marginal gain in HP, at full throttle. Maybe the same difference as manifolds vs headers. 10-20 HP.
B: They make you feel like a big man when you un-cork them and make it scream. Cool factor.
C: I don't see how they would restrict flow as they aren't in line with the flow of exhaust.

Is it something that you would go out of your way to do? Meh. That depends on your goals, the only place you could get the full effect, and not be looking over your shoulder, would be at the drag strip, at full throttle. Because, You and I both know gas engines like a little back pressure in everyday driving. :D

They way I see it is, If you put good thru-put mufflers on, and a H or X pipe that would possibly negate any performance gains you would get from a cork. On the other hand, it has a certain cool factor, 007 hidden button type effect...

Again, I could be wrong, and that button could be routed to a 150 shot of NOS in the trunk for some real fun...

:burnout:

Hope this helps.

I ran my truck around with open headers. was quite...interesting. though I feel like I have gone deaf ever so slightly :toothy10: I am contemplating getting an X-pipe when I get a full exhaust put on and I saw one with cutouts and it got me wondering

I got a set for fathers day a couple years ago. I like mine if for no other reason just to play wth on the street. There fun to open up when you go by some ricer or anybody I want to mess wth.

think it depends mostly on how efficient your exhaust system is.

my car ran the same through the 3" X-pipe exhaust as it did with the cut outs open..

but also had a friens with little pee shooter exhaust on his car and he would get at least a half second drom the cut outs.. he has fill 2 1/2" tti exhaust now and i'll bet he no longer needs the cut outs.. not sure when he will get it back to the track.

I have them on my car. They were there when I bought it. The exhaust is a nice setup with an X pipe and some mellow turbo mufflers. The cutouts are electric than can be set from closed any amount open. Do they make a difference? Beats me, I haven't had the car at the track. But, it's a cool attention getter when cruising and puts a big grin on my face when I pass a group of Harleys at speed. They seem to hate that for some reason.

cause they want to be the loud ,attention getting-------- 8 cylinders uncapped sound much better than any harley.

I have an X set up on the Duster. It's a Summit weld up kit I bought. Then
put the cut outs after the X like the Pypes brand. I also have elect. valves
on them. Lots of fun going past those ricers with them open.

I have just found the reason to justify the expensive!!!! THANK YOU...LMFAO I can hardly wait.. and I certainly don't have to worry about the Harley dudes catching me with thier 60hp machines...LOL Going to put them on a 500ci E body

I have electric exhaust cutouts on my Demon and I love them. It's not for any HP gain it's the pure fun of opening them up any time you want to and look at peoples expressions. One of my favorite times to open them is when I'm beside some punk playing their dumb *** music way to loud I open them and give them the finger.
They are one of the best things on the Demon to enjoy anytime I want

I put cut outs on my dart about 2 years ago and I can honestly say that I have ran them open about 90% of the time. I have small pipes on my car so having them open actually helps alot. If your going to be driving the car alot then get electric ones becuase having them open does get annoying. No talking on the phone inside the car, no going through drive thrus, stereo has to be cranked to hear it at all. There is no better feeling though when the person next you at the stop light rolls up their windows.

I've dreamt of doing that for a long time! But I'd rather open it up, rev the motor and pretend they're not there like they're not bothering me.

Which open exahust makes it hard for them to bother me.
stop picking on us harley guys!

P.S. Most Harleys make over 60 hp nowdays...mine is right 100.
I'm so sorry, I thought you were gonna say your's makes 61HP :D

I have them on my duster...Love them! Horsepower gains are likey small, but being able to open them up and cruise through town and rattle the store windows puts a huge smile on my face...and if some dude with a 5.0 mustang or camaro pulls up along side....they usally don't even think of trying to mess with me.

i have the cut outs set up on my car. i have yet to start the car but i have this vision of me on the highway racing some douche bag in a mustang or some rice rocket at about 1/2 - 3/4 throttle pacing them, then hitting the switch and flooring it. the noise and then me just putting about 10 cars on em would make them wonder what the hell just happened for a loooooong time.

I'm not picking on all Harley owners, just the ones that act like bungholes. I have a few Harley buddies that talk about "those other Harley owners". :thumbdow:

Younggun2.0- If you are still in the planning process, check out the thread in the electrical forum about putting the cutout switch in the console ashtray...if you have a console. Its pretty slick.

i saw that. its pretty slick. i modified my console top with a sheet of carbon fiber and deleted the ash tray. my console top was pretty hammered and someone had drilled a hole in the top to mount a tach. i will be putting my exhaust switch inside the dash ash tray were the lighter would have been.

Got Doug's cutouts on mine

Doubt it is any gain in power, but as others have said, ONE HELL OF A COOLFACTOR
