Hi would appreciate your thoughts on shipping a 383 short block in the trunk of a 70 dart 1900 miles as the crow flies so longer by road.
The trunk is solid. Other thing, would the trunk lid be able to close

Thx for looking

that is how i got mine home from the machine shop. i put a sheet of 3/4" plywood down and put the engine in upside down so it sat crank side up. you dont want it sitting with the weight on the crank it will beat up the bearings. my trunk even closed. i put an old blanket over it so it wouldnt bouce up against the trunk lid. my engine was completely wrapped in a bag and shrink wrap.

I wouldn't ship it in the trunk unless it was strapped in at a minimum.

i would do it in a heartbeat.good luck on your road trip it should be fun in that old iron.

i moved an engine in the front seat of a honda prelude once too. it was on a stand. i opened the passenger door and rolled it in. jacked up the car till the stand was dangling and unbolted it. let the car down and shut the door.

That is awesome! An old man learns something new every day..

ive taken out the passenger seat of the duster and went end over end up onto the floor board...

I have hauled a complete small block Chevy motor and trans. complete with air cleaner on in the trunk of a Crown Victoria and shut the trunk lid.

How would you say the size and shape of that compares to lets say..... an adult sized body lol no reason in particular, just making conversation and curious lmao hahaha

haha! when i bought my cordoba, i went right across the street to get some new tires put on it, and the tire guy (who my dad went to school with) popped the trunk and said, "damn man! you could fit 9 or 10 dead hookers in here, and another 3 under the hood!"

I got in pretty damned near a head-on...I hit other guy in the 1/4 panel. My 383 intake was in THE TRUNK...it wiped the fold-down back seat of my cavalier out and ended up on the front pass floor... missed me completely but had to go to hospital..hit my head on the windshield...cop asked me what the big hunk a metal was...I said huh??? Oh **** thats my 30 lb BB intake....he said I was lucky to be alive...be careful!

Got to do what you go to do.....

Once took the hatch off a 240Z and hauled several Chebby 350s home. That car made a great El Camino with the hatch lid taken off.

Yeah, tie it down. Otherwise...

If you're in an accident, or even a near miss where you lock up the brakes for a bit, that engine will leave the trunk and come join you up front. :eek:ops:

Put some plywood down so it spreads the weight across the rear frame rails instead of just sitting on the trunk pan, and figure out a way to tie it down to something back there.

Been there done that more time then I care to count.

Please tie it down, somehow. Love Young guns response, Ink's reply. So true.

...............I carried a complete 360 o0nce and also a complete 440 in the trunk of a 67 dart, lid did not close with the 440...............kim........

Put the spare tire and the jack plate in the back seat so you don't trap them under engine in case you need them. Like the others said, put some wood down to spread the load out and tie it down, you'll be fine.
