Hey guy's & gal's....... where does everybody go to buy there assortment of vise grip's? There are very few tool store's around here any more, there is Lowe's and Menard's, and Sear's, but we only want to buy the VISE GRIP brand. We are looking for place's with the best price's, and we will probably spend at least a couple hundred or so, as some of the pair's we have had for many year's are getting wore out!! Thank's everybody for your input.

My experience has been that our Menards not only sells the vice grip brand but also has a sale on them now and then. As we're both in the same state I suspect your Menards would do the same. Dan

Honestly, I just go to the tool truck guy. He primarily sells Cornwell, but also deals in other goodies such as Vice Grips. Might be worth a shot to call or check out one of your local guys, and it keeps them on the road a little longer! :)

All the new ones are going to say "Irwin" on them. These are Chinese-made trash and your worn-out USA-made Vice-Grip brand tools are still lightyears ahead of Irwin trash.

The very first time I used Irwin Ice-Grips, the knurling on the jaws wore off. Like, literally just crumbled off.

I watch my old Vice-Grips like a hawk now.

When they went to China the quality went to total S^*t.

This guy is dead on, new ones are absolute junk. FU China:eek:ops:

Farm stores such as Norby's Farm Fleet & Mills' Fleet Farm as well as many parts houses carry "the Vise Grip Brand here in NE Iowa. You just cant beat Vise Grips brand.

Irwin IS the Vise Grips brand, going so far as to stamp them, "The Original".

I hate to break it to Irwin (I guess the Chinese interpreter screwed up), but "The Original" Vise Grip was made out of quality material in the USA.

I live 35 miles from where the original ones were made. I try to pick up good old ones at swap meets, farm sales etc. Look for the ones that have the Vise grip insignia with the 2 hands shaking. The plant closed down here in Nebraska and the new ones are junk. I had an Uncle that worked there and he used to get "seconds" for $2.50.

Channel Lock is still a USA brand but don't think they make locking pliers anymore.

After some searching found that Armstrong (USA) makes some- pt# 67-405. I don't have them but the other Armstrong tools I have are over-built.

Try Fleetpride, I've had good luck getting Channelock from them....

Crap. I didn't know Vise Grip had gone to Chineseo. There's only one solution --look for used ones

You guys have been doing your homework. Yes Vice Grip brand is Irwin and the new ones are made in China. They're not bad as long as you don't try to unscrew a rusted exhaust stud or something like that. Save your old ones guys!
Welcome to my world. Not a day goes by that I don't get bashed about "once made in USA but now made in China" tools. Most major tool brands buy products made in China and all tool suppliers buy or manufacture some of their tools in China. Those companies are Snap On, Mac, Matco and Cornwell. tmm

Yes, it sucks that we will soon not be able to buy any made in USA tools.

I was talking to my neighbor recently about this and he told me: "You should go to Harbor Freight! I bought a bunch of Made in the USA tools there. They're all from Pittsburgh! :wack:

lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I'm behind on a jillion posts and topics here, but on topic of pliers, I have used and abused a pair of Knipex channel locks that out perform vise grips! Had a pair for 20 plus years and use several times a week. You will not use any other channel locks after using this tool! Somewhat pricey, but well worth it..<thought I'd share> for those that haven't tried them.

Yes they are expensive but they are gripping sombitches! Thank our German brothers for their quality. tmm

Some of the Vise Grips brand I have say Irwin on them but still say made in the USA. These are still good quality ones, so be carful when buying used.

The Mac ones I have, a few of them say made in the US, and the others don't say where they are made. I guess I have to assume they are made in china.

I also agree cutters and locking pliers by Knipex, are very good quality.

..........Well, hopefully the 10 piece set i bought from MAC say made in usa.....regular price was $240.00, on sale for $100.00........kim.......

harbor freight has them fro cheap but not sure what the qulity is
