Time for Oil Change - Recommendation

Adjust your W value to the lowest number possible (0W, 5W, 10W) and your normal operating temp viscosity (30, 40) to provide correct oil pressure at your operating rpm range.

Rule of thumb is 10+ psi / 1000 rpm, so if you run up to 6000 rpm, then be sure your oil viscosity (and oil system) provides 66 psi at 6000 rpm.

Running extra thick oil like 15w40 or 20w50 and subsequently very high oil pressures at 2500 + rpm has several negative impacts on the engine and if your engine temps are consistently normal (180 - 220) there is no reason to run overly thick oil.

There are alot of 5w and 0w oils nowadays which offer superior start-up viscosity (quick to circulate which lowers startup wear considerably) and still maintain good viscosity at operating temp (100C). There are a number of reasons to run synthetic. A couple are they have the wide temperature operating ranges and they dont degrade to a different viscosity as badly.

So if you run 10w30 typically, you can also run 5w30 or 0w30 synthetic but will have better startup lubrication and the same operating viscosity.

I vote 0w30 or 5w40 full synthetic with 4 oz of lucas zddp additive and a mobile 1 synthetic oil filter.

Or

If you can find 0w30 or 5w40 with built in zinc / phosphorous I would run that rather than dosing a batch of oil with zddp.

I would stay away from racing oils if you plan to have typical OCIs because they are not made to daily drive or have 3000 + mile change intervals.
