I'm looking at the Edelbrock PN 60767 heads for my 360. I have a set of 596 heads that my machinist says are junk (bumps in the exhaust port...low flow). I was wondering if anyone has bought these Edelbrock heads and flowed them. Also, I have been told that the 308 head is much better than the 596. Can anyone back that claim up? My head options are 596, 051, 308, 576, 302, or the Edelbrock heads. Any help would be much obliged!

Let's start with basics.3 things,1 : expected output,2: what combo?...3 Budget....We need that first.

Let's start with basics.3 things,1 : expected output,2: what combo?...3 Budget....We need that first.

1. output- maximum, all out drag racing
2. 1979 LA 360- .060 over .423 cam, stock valves, shaft rockers, 9.1 to 1 advertised compression, stock carb...tries to spend the 1/4 between 4800-7000 rpm
3. no budget...just can't touch anything...no grinding or "messaging." That's cheatin' in my class.

I just need pointed in the direction of flow numbers, starting at .100 and going to .500 inches of lift. Also, I have no idea about any other heads. I'm sure one head is probably better than the others and I spent 2 days at the junkyards around Omaha and only found 2 360s and neither had heads that I could use. I would have bought them just to flow them so I would have the numbers. A nice gent on this forum sent me a link for the flow numbers on the Edelbrock heads since I first posted...thanks!
The link is- http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/cylheads/chrysler/sb_perf_rpm1.shtml if anyone wants to look them up!
Thanks,
Wayne

They are NHRA Legal replacements for Stock/Super Stock

Better check with NHRA...just because Edelbrock says there are legal...they probably are not.

For a Stocker...

since you are building a 360...remember...360s came with 1.88 intake..eddy heads come with 2.02...that needs to be changed...

360s come with 3/8 valve stems.....eddy have 11/32 guides...those will have to be changed..

Probably better suited for Super STock...but need to check

Man 70aarcuda ! You just saved the guy a bunch of money and a bunch of headaches. What an answer, I'm impressed. It's late now, but I hope he follows up and takes your advice.

Ain't that how it usually goes with cars. See a plan, but fail to see the big picture and your first step forward is over a cliff. Ask me how I know. I can see myself in his place. Just try to rely on an organization. It's like politicians.

I don't know much about racing, so I need good advice, that's why I'm on here.
Thanks for helping the guy !

I was going to say I can't see how they'd be legal with the valve sizes...lol. Nevermind the port volume. If you have to run a factory head I'd run the 308s. If this is a class deal you will want to have the guides done, then the valve job done and you should have it done by a performance shop. There is a lot of flow to be gained with the right valve job and top of the line equipment. Stock valves are terrible in terms of the seat cut and accuracy and that's where most of the power will come from. A good valve job can give you a "free" 10-15cfm and in a limited class that's big. Pair them with a custom camshaft from someone that knows Stock Eliminator work - and you should be styling.

Thanks for the Edelbrock info. Also, thanks for the info on the 308 heads. I had head that before, but just wanted to double check. After about 4 hours of searching, found this link-
http://www.mopar1.us/cylhead.html
It has flow numbers and sources for many different Mopar heads. I guess I'll just keep searching for a pair of the 308s and bring them to my builder. It's sad to see my set of heads near the bottom!! I'll get cracking on these.
