Electricians on FABO - I want to add a 60Amp sub panel

Codes say 18" is OK with conduit, don't bury it 4 feet deep. Strap the vertical conduit to the building at midpoint. Keep the neutral separate from the ground, including the box. Do pound a ground rod next to the new panel location and tie it to the ground bus in the new panel using solid #6. Your wire is rated for damp only locations, if the conduit fills with water you might have a problem, THWN would be better in that case. Panel without main breaker is not best, but meets code. I like a main so I can shut off the panel in sight, sucks if you are working on it and someone turns the breaker on when you can't see it. Your wire (#6) is rated for 65 amps and should be just fine, you could use a 70 amp CB to feed it if you wanted. Be careful and wear good dry leather gloves if working around hot power, electricity is not very forgiving. You should consider GFI on your circuits, 2011 code requires it, though which code applies depends on where you live. I am a licensed electrical engineer and design these for a living, so need to tell you it is probably legal to do your own wiring but you should get a permit! (Don't want any lawyers calling me) Be careful and good luck!
