Ok, this is long winded, I am a mechanically sorta guy that has always loved Mopar.

What I want: A Newer Hemi powered 4-5 Spd, 68-70 Roadrunner/SuperBee.

I have not bought a body yet, because I am stuck in Afghanistan for another year.

Cost will always be a factor, so I figure a 5.7 Hemi will be the starting base. Can I build a conversion around the 5.7 (K frame mod etc) and at a later date replace it with a 6.4/6.1 without much fuss?

What will be the best years 5.7's for this mod, does it matter?

I wish to do all this without cutting the car to make things fit. I would really like to keep the original car in fresh state, In case in 40 years I want to go back to the original dated motor. (doubt it)

I will be building two of these cars in the next 10 years, one for each of my Daughters (with my Daughters-just not telling them it will be theirs.) I had thought about starting with a Duster, but I never really like the 71 Duster I had previously.

I am slowly reading through all the previous posts of conversions, but if anyone is doing a similar build, or thinking about doing this, we could work together and research a plan. Links to similar past conversations in this line, would be appreciated.

I want a more DD at first, what are the Rules for Virginia?in reference to Smog Will I have to run Carbs, or Will I be able to keep the FI system?

I know you said you don't want to cut the Roadrunner/Super Bee, but get yourself a copy of the current issue of Mopar Action magazine. They've got a feature article of a B-body Roadrunner mounted to a current Charger floorpan. The major changes involved shortening the Charger wheelbase by 4 inches to match the Roadrunner and adding sheetmetal to the trunkfloor area. Sure, there were a bunch of other changes but the entire Charger interior was fit to the Roadrunner.

The a body platform has more "stuff" involved than a b body. Your k frame is doesnt have to be touched/notched/kissed/loved etc. for the 5.7,6.1, or 6.4 to drop in. You need TTI mounts, Shumacher poly locs (better than the oe style rubber) and 3g hemi drops right in. You can use a factory 4spd, (the engine accepts all small block trans.), but if ya go with an tremec, or the like, some tunnel mods are required, some just may need the BFH, while others need to break out the cut off wheel. Call the aftermarket suppliers for whatever trans you want and ask what is required to mount their trans. Once tou have the engine/trans together they wiil drop in with no issues. Headers, TTI cause they fit but pricey, hotwireauto.com for the harness, use an 05 truck computer, have hotwireauto program the computer. This will keep you with factory parts and your set. Fuel system...tanksinc.com for an intank set up that is around 250ish. I personally have done everything listed here, exception, I used a 545rfe trans and did have to modify the trans tunnel, but it was worth it. Check fbbo, latemodel hemi into early b bodies, this may give ya an idea of what's involved.http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?1618-late-model-hemi-into-early-b-bodies

LOL Tin

B Bodies are easier to fit these into.

5.7's and 6.1's are the same outside. I don't know about 6.4's, but I'm fairly certain they are as well.

03-08 5.7 is what you want, with a car front cover with accessories (looks better).

Yeah, the car timing cover/acc. are easier to use out of the gate, but if you are willing to move the alt. and ac compressor outward, then spend some shaving the top of the truck timing cover, it can be made to look very nice. But if you can get the car set up, I say use that.....you have been warned, lol!!

The newer 09 and up 5.7 has the eagle heads, which are the larger ports like the 6.1 engines, the 6.1 intake will bolt right up to the newer heads if you wanted to. They are 390 hp stock and cams are available as well as an ECM to put in your muslce car. 35hp less than the 6.1 for half the cost used generally.
