has anyone used amd's full quarters? and im looking for some instructions or guidance to where all the spot welds are? have already found and melted the lead at the roof skin, drip rail and rockers, im aware of the spot welds behind the rear quarter windows, but am unsure as to whats going on around my rear window... may be a dumb question but can the change be done with window in? thanks for any help/ info took a fast brows through the threads here and probably missed one directly related to what im looking for..:violent1:
 
Around just about every edge of the 1/4.

Doorjambs, bottom of rocker, wheelwell edge, trunk drop, trunk rail.
 
Window must come out. Not difficult to do and comes out as a complete assembly. Not telling you not to replace the quarter but is it really necessary? Crash damage vs. rust repair?
 
the bottoms of both quarters infront and behind wheel wells were patched but have started to rust and bubble... and i would like to avoid bondo as much as possible. thought full quarters would be nicer than skins??
 
I have installed the full amd quarters on a demon and I have to say they are a good fit, not 100% perfect but very close. if I were to do them again I probably would only replace what needs to be. if you could use the skins I would. there is just so much more you have to deal with when using the full quarters. more body lines, the seams at the windows and trunk. plus once you cut it all out stuff tends to move. but overall the full quarters are great if you don't want to do that long butt weld and plug weld in the original locations. but I don't think there is a need to remove more then you have to unless you have other problem areas besides just the bottom. im not a pro but that's my opinion
 
ill try and upload something here this evening, had patches in any problems seem to stop just above them, improper prep, car was rough the first time, took a better look at the skins, have no problem welding, just wanted to avoid it, looks like i may end up doing door pillar on lh side, the striker area is cracking and showing rust... probably be an "easy ish" replacement once the skin is cut out? i dont want this turning into a rotiserie and i know im going to have to turn a blind eye when the quarters are off, already noticed the trunk side extensions are rotted away where does it end haha im a mechanic not a bodyman:newb:
 
I just had a set installed over the summer. At the top of the doorjamb, under the side window it didnt even come close! We ended up having to pie cut the panel and make a patch. Let me tell you of all the places to make a patch, compound curves, sharp bodylines! Grrrrrr thankfully I am okay with the idea it will never be a show car, because the gap at the top opens up, it will never pass the Rad Rides by Troy test! If you are anywhere near northern Illinois, you can buy my skins for half of retail skin prices!
 
Keep all the original bends and body lines if they are in good shape. No need to replace the front edge into the door striker if not needed. Same with the sail panel and rear window area. If all that metal is good, no need to replace it.

That's exactly what we have heard from a couple different guy's, doing
the full Duster, Demon full quarter panel's. AMD need's a definate re-tooling
of their tool die. I've also heard, that it would be an easier install if
the front of the old quarter is left on, where it wrap's 90 degree's into the
the edge of the door jam, if the original quarter section is still on the car,
and it's in good shape still.

the car was originally damaged in the door area somehow, as the original paint had been patched, but the area im concerned about is within 2 inches from the striker post itself, this car will never be a show car as it racks up the miles....as far as body lines there is a fair bit of filler around and above the wheel wells, and their lips...i would be fine with re patching and welding all the spots and filling again, however by the time i go through that much work it may be more economical "time wise" and in the long run just to replace them?? as far as the pillar its a gong show?

im leaning towards skins from amd, im going nowhere near goodmark...
 
I would stay away from Goodmark also. Haven't heard much good. I would use only as much as you need. Some good used sections may fit the bill for you also or a combo of used, new, and hand made. tmm
 
I've done many 1/4 replacements on Ford, chevy, and Mopar, I prefer full panel over skins, I think its less work in the long run, but any aftermarket panels I've used have never been a perfect fit out of the box with no issues, however A.M.D has been the best I have used.
 
Strip the whole quarter first, you may find more surprises and need the full panel.

X2, you need to strip the quarter 1st before you will know what you have to replace. but from what I can see in the photos I would recommend the AMD skin
 
yup, just installed a pair of amd quarters on my duster and same thing, big gaps at top of door jambs, can almost stick ya finger thru em, the rest of the jambs line up great. Had to pie cut mine too, little dissapointing to have to cut up new quarters.
 
Just put full quarter in 70 duster from amd .The quarters have a gap between the door and quarter gap at the top.Amd knows this but still sells them.Leave the old quarter on the door jamb and cut the new quarter all the way up and weld it

i agree.. i hate the small skins.. i would install full 1/4 all day long. amd makes nice panels. goodmark.. eh.. they will do.. i have used them all.
 
I put full AMD quarters on my 73 duster. It takes patience but they fit pretty well. The hardest part was the around the drip rail area. In the end they were worth it to me.

strip the whole quarter 1st before buying a new one. so you know what you really need. I bought mine from smsautoclassic.com in Québec. good company.
