Can you un-bolt and flip the front spring hangers on an early a-body to lower the car? i have heard that this will work and lower the car about an inch?

im cool with that. i am looking for the cheapest way to drop my 65 valiant with out de-arching the springs or using cheesy *** lowering blocks.

the distance between the upper and lower set of bolts is different for the hangers so you cannot just flip them. I suggest getting the ones with 2 sets of holes.

For who? There are countless people who have done this and I believe on Darts also.

Lower the rear of the spring the same as the front or the pinion angle will change. Just a though. Steve

And I believe he is right about flipping the fronts. The upper holes are a different spread then the lower holes.

not a early abody but on my 70 I just flipped and the holes have to be open up just a little lower the car some.. that's it..worked pretty good for a little time involved doing it...I have ss springs on my car no problems..:burnout:

will be doing this first thing along with the rear slider brackets. should get the car a couple inches lower for pretty cheap.

the car will eventually be mini tubbed and springs moved in so drilling out he hole for the factory mount is no big deal. thanks guys,

I don't belive flipping the hanger will not gain you an 1". More like 1/4 to 1/2". As stated, 3 of the holes are square with each other and one is spaced out, so you have to modify 2 holes. Easy to do, yes, but the PST hangers are a better option.

I dont like elongating holes, or doing things incorrectly. what if ya wanna go back to original, now ya have brackets that wobble around in elongated holes... I would buy the proper hangers.

don't hog out those holes if you want to go back to original some day.
these can be easily made with 3"sq tube with 3/16" wall thickness
....hacksaw to length, cut off the face and drill.
you can see mine in the "pics of your duster" thread page 8

this is the best ideal yet! off to the metal yard I go.

you will lower it alot more that 3/4 of an inch flipping the hangers.
sloted the holes in the hanger rather than the car ( had plenty of spares )
i also welded in some new bolts while i was at it a couple tacks and done.
i wouldnt slot the car. while. like others have said harder to go back to stock if you ever wanted.

Flip the front hanger and put some angled shims under the axle pads to get your pinion angle back to stock and be done with it. I am sure that's what Grant told you to do.

The misinformation in this thread is incredible. Have any of you actually flipped your front hangers?

These are the real facts......

• The amount you need to grind the holes is incredible small.
• Going back to stock is simple. Just flip them back over.
• Your mount will not wobble around in the holes.... What a joke.
• It will lower the back about 1".
• Pinion angle change is insignificant. Worry about it if you want, or don't worry about it at all...... It won't matter in the end.

In short..... It will lower your car about 1", is 100% reversible and has virtually ZERO bad side-effects.

some have done it and some go by pic... I did not have any problems but hey that's just me ... I am 1 of those that have done it:D:D:D:D:D:D so you do whats best for you :prayer:

I have done it many times - you can just elongate two of the holes diagonally opposite each other. ie upper outer and lower inner and you can just flip it back over if you want to raise the car back up with the two locating holes still in the factory position.
In Aussie A body which I would believe use the same hangars it lowers the car about 2 inches? and changes the instant centre of the car.
Someone who knows more about suspension can explain what that means in more detail.

all good info.
are your originals in good shape?
will they lower the correct amount?
are you skilled in/do you like fabricating parts?
would you rather just buy new ones?
...so many ways to skin this cat..have at it!
