So, I am about to start putting my formula s together and had a couple of questions. First, I have one of those new 69 repop tail panels and a round, nos formula s emblem and was wondering how to put it on. The emblem just has two studs(with no threads) and the tail panel has no holes. I seem to remember seeing a factory tail panel and the two, short studs looked to be ground down and "mushroomed" over to hold it to the tail panel. Has anyone done this? Seems like you get one shot only at it and these parts weren't cheap.
Secondly, I had a question on dash bezels. My car was a wood grain dash car with the bottom portion painted black. Most of them I've seen wood grain or not, the bottom portion and the glove box trim are silver. Any ideas on why some of them were black at the bottom? The car I'm doing was parked in 1976 so I'm fairly certain that the bottom of the bezel was originally black despite some arguments from some friends. Thanks for ready this long winded rant. Any advise is greatly appreciated.:prayer:

My orig 69 "S" bezel was black and silver/chrome only...no mix of woodgrain and black..I believe the woodgrain may be from a "decor pkg". I have an orig "S" tail panel hanging on my wall...I will take a peek and post pics if you like??

Checked my panel and it looks like the emblem was removed for restoration and then attached again...but Im pretty sure that these emblems were "waxed" over...I had my orig for sale on here lemme chk

not a formula s panel but it has a pic of the backside of the cuda emblem on ihttp://www.ebay.com/itm/69-Plymouth-Barracuda-Trunk-Lid-Deck-Panel-Mopar-/271154488527?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D5642742292142668958%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D271154488527%26t
long link lol

I think you drill two holes for the insert then push a metal tab in then your emblems goes inside the tab. Any body shop should give you them tabs if you ask.

Now ya got me thinking on the wood grain...here is a link to year one...not that I recommend them...but read the description..sounds like there should be 2 kits??

Here is the one from PG classics...they list 67-9 as being the same, but they are not..67 is I believe "burlwood" 68-9 is different..here is there link

Steve, 1968 is Burlwood too. You can't trust any of the aftermarket companies that are doing the dash inserts.

That is what my 68 Convertible has on it. The matching Burlwood is on the top part of the cluster and it is argent across the bottom including the glove box door.

Agreed, I have had some conversations with some guys selling these burl wood inserts for a 69. Doesn't make sense, the grain doesn't match the console or door panels on a deluxe interior car. I have seen a bunch of cars with the lower part of the bezel painted black. Still can't figure out why. My car is a standard interior car with a wood grain dash, 150 mph speedo, and wood grain console, formula s car. Thanks for the replies so far.

1967 and 1968 has no woodgrain on the console. It is painted argent just like the dash.

Exactly, 69 console is wood grain. The only other thing I can think of to mention is my car has red interior with the red sport wheel. Maybe I need to go get a photo of the fender tag. I'll be back.....

And there it is in this page. My car came with the barracuda sport package(which is different than the decor package). Thank you sir! Mystery solved. This is another reason why I love this site. Thanks again, guys!!

You are welcome. Sharing information is how we all learn. Lol, when I first bought my Barracuda I didn't even know what an A-Body Mopar was.

Exactly! I love the way the mopar community shares information. I have had mopars for 25 years and I am still amazed at the info I am still learning. I just bought my first early b-body last year and am soaking up a lot of that info as well. Just curious, where are you in Oklahoma? I am Tulsa born and raised went to OU and am now stuck out here in the granola state.:D. Thanks again, I love that hamtramck website! Cory

Good luck with that repop tail panel, I have one here I can't use its made out of aluminum as thin as paper. It will bend out of shape just looking at it and Metro never gave me my money back for the piece of junk. All of the panels aftermarket suppliers are selling are coming from Metro.

So I chkd the hamtramck link out, is what they are calling "custom sill molding" the "bottom" part of the bezel?? Cool...never knew there was this option..post pics of what you got if you can.

Oh if you look at the year one link I posted..in the dash decal, they show woodgrain trim for the glove box bezel....anyone seen that before??

Suttle differences dont always change right on the year change.
Never was any burewood for a console. When they put a linear grain wood on the console and the rear panels the dash and doors got a linear grain also. Change happened in the middle of 68 so a 68 could have either.
Lower portion of the bezel did change to black with the linear wood for 69 and the wiper switch knob had the word WASh written in the middle just like the fuel door had FUEL.

Agreed, I'm almost afraid to touch it. I'll never buy from them again. Also, took just under a year to get to me with zero communication during the several delays in (Chinese) manufacturing. Never again. Rant off.:wack:

I agree redfish, but I think only the cars with the electric windshield wash option had that switch/button if I'm not mistaken.
