A couple of 69 barracuda questions

-
The pic and text below "barracuda sport group" is what I have on my car Steve. The interior colored sport steering wheel, 150mph speedo, etc. I'm with you guys though, I've seen way too much crazy optional stuff on these cars over the years to think the factory didn't take a few liberties when assembling these cars. This car was wrecked and parked in 1976. I'm just going to put it back like it was when I got it. That's how it came from the factory, I believe.

Are there any indications on your car that there were rocker panel moldlings in it? That is what is suppose to come with Sport Group.

That and a wood grained steering wheel (with Plymouth Emblem it seems), 150 Speedo, and wood grained dash fasica.

All that stuff! Only it's not a wood grained wheel. It's got the same aluminum spokes but is red(interior color) instead of wood grain. Super cool steering wheel. I've never seen one on anything but a 69 barracuda. Came in red, green, blue and black. And, they have the fish emblem instead of the Plymouth one.

I have seen a few of those red, green and blue steering wheels over the years. They are rare. I have seen more of the black ones.

Here is the back of the emblem.

looking at the emblem you posted it is short stub hollow center, so it was peened at the factory. The short stubs should allow the above options (barrel clips or push nuts) since the peen wasn't real thick. If it is comparable to the 67 and they are long enough.

How would it get peened over without damaging the panel??

Thanks
Steve

The peen is very slight and suspect they just had a jig and press to install them. This is a pic of the backside of my original. Some AS%%*^ stole the emblem off of and you can see the outline of the peen from the factory. When they stole it (pried it off) only very slight damage was done to the panel so the peen is soft. I would think if some epoxy or JB_Weld is applied into the hollow end of the emblem from the back side it would be fine.

Here is a Blue one that my car came with, I hope to be able to restore it..... Project for the comming weeks..

Just to add to the confusion on tail panels. The Formula S and Fish emblems have a different spacing between the posts. Therefore the tail panels are different from factory due to the spacing difference. The distance from the panel edge is also different for each emblem.(notice how close to the panel edge the S emblem is) SOOOO basically you can't take a Formula S panel and just put a fish emblem on it or vice versa. Beside the wholes not lining up the emblem would be in the wrong location. I have both panels off cars and have the hole locations and spacing's written down somewhere?

I have 3 NOS '69 Formula S tail panel emblems and they are as pictured earlier. Yes peened over on the back side.

Checked my panel and it looks like the emblem was removed for restoration and then attached again...but Im pretty sure that these emblems were "waxed" over...I had my orig for sale on here lemme chk

Steve, just wondering what you mean by "waxed over" ?

Steve, just wondering what you mean by "waxed over" ?

Im just using it as a "term" but what I mean is that the "peening" must have been thin to avoid damage...thus it looks like "wax drippings" like in the old days with sealing envelopes?? Hope that makes sense...

Here is my red wheel. Hey if anyone could take a measurement for the holes on the tail panel with the formula s emblem I would be forever indebted........:prayer:

See if this will work for you.

Maybe Mon i'll get measurement? Nice red wheel, don't see them often! I have a green one in a '69 notch that's white/green top/green interior/green wheel......come to think of it my green on green '69 M-notch has a green wheel!!
I should have bought a NOS red wheel when I had the chance!!!!!...
Nobody that I know of is restoring these "pebble grain" wheels yet???

OK, I just found my measurements for emblems, but only from the edge, rite now I don't have a vertical measurement.
"S" emblem from the edge is .900", then 1.400" to next hole.
"Fish" emblem is 2.250" from the edge, then 1.700" to next hole.....I wrote these down awhile ago, let me double check for you and get a vertical #.

I met a guy here named Doug Lepak from Canada. He can restore these wheels but not with the original texture. The sands them smooth but they still look great. I will probably use him when I am ready. It's not cheap. Seems like a good guy though. And thanks guys for the measurements!!!

GREEN WHEEL...M-notch

The template I posted was trace rubbed from a original panel. Print it 8.5x11 and line up lower corner to the right edge and resting on the raised lip of the panel. The line above should line up with the raised portion above the emblem.
