Ive done some looking an cant seem to find an answer.
I have a 440 with a cam in my 72 duster.
Its time i change the oil.(first time since i got the car)
What oil do you recommend i use?
I also remember hearing someone say do not use fram filters. Why so?
Thanks for the help.

I use Amsoil Z-rod 20W50 synthetic, though I probably don't need the zinc and I could probably use 10W40 if I wanted. Most filters are good, but I had a problem with Fram as a kid and won't use them. I use Wix or Amsoil filters now.

I use Royal Purple 10w40 synthetic which has the zinc in it. I use this for racing and on the street.

I think someone on here posted this. It's a lot of reading, but great stuff.

Worth slugging thru.

You only say your 440 has a cam in it. I would hope so, they work better with them in there. Solid, hydraulic, roller? Use = Race, street or both? That would be an influence in your selection.

Assuming it's a street driven 440, mild upgrades. I tend to like Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-40 and 10W-30 in colder weather. That article tells me I should use an even synthetic in cold weather that I have been using.

Fram filters are known for collapsing under high rpm with high pressure oil pumps. I run only Napa Gold filters. I use to run 10/30 royal purple but now I run 15/50 Mobil 1. The 15/50 is the only weight Mobil 1 that has extra zinc in it.

7 posts and no arguing......impressive for an oil thread...

Thanks for all the helpful links and info.

And im not sure what kind of cam. The guy i bought it from wasnt a car nut and forgot
Alot of the info the previous owner(who built the car) gave him.
So im not 100% sure till i can pull everything apart and check for myself

I use Mobil 1, 15/50 with the Fram HP1 oil filter, mine idles @ 80 PSI and goes to 100 PSI in like less than a second, never any failures, have seen lesser/cheaper filters blow off on the starting line on BB mopars. Wix would be my second choice.

I use Valvoline 40 Weight. I'm in the Sunshine State and wouldn't bother with Multi Viscocity Oils. Most older engines are a little loose, heck they came from the factory that way, let alone having a bunch of miles on them.
Todays engines are built with tighter tolerances and can survive on 5-20, 10-40 oil.

most new cars run the 0-30 etc low weight oils because it increases fuel mileage and helps them get a higher EPA mileage rating in order to sell more cars and get better tax breaks.
