New with the mopar transmissions, I found a 3speed with OD that was behind a /6 near me for $100obo is this a 833 trans and will it bolt up to my 318? I currently have the alum bell with dual bolt patterns and a 3speed.

The problem is with the front bearing retainer. The OD's were larger than the standard 833.You car being a 74 might be ok. I'm sure others will chime in with more detail.

The OD 4 speeds used a 5.125" bearing retainer. The dual pattern bell housings were made to accept a 4.35" bearing retainer. Measure yours to make sure. If yours won't work there are plenty of small block OD bell housings out there. You will just have to find one. Look for '76 up 318 OD from A,F,M,J, bodies or trucks/vans.....

Gotcha, it came out of a van with a /6 not sure of the year. For 100 bucks might still be an ok pick.

Is it worth the trouble going from a 3 speed to a 833Od?

You'll pick up some MPG's with the OD, so I'd say its worth the trouble. That trans isn't exactly a bolt in deal though, it's longer than your 3 speed so the drive shaft needs to be shortened. The shifter locations on the truck OD trans doesn't work in an A body so you'll need to fab up a bracket to mount the shifter in the right location. Here's a link to the shifter bracket drawing:

You'll also have to trim part of the forward shifter mount off the trans to clear the cross member.
Like I said it's not exactly a bolt in deal but it's worth it in the end, it'll pay for itself in fuel savings.
