I have a 1973--1976 k--frame and i'm putting it in my 1969 valiant. I want to go to the big brakes with the 4 1/2 bolt pattern, I need a good set of spindels, I see Dr Diff is selling re-pop brackets for the calibers, what 11 3/4" rotors would you buy, i'd like to keep them made in america if possible, I see a lot of people are using the aluminum mopar master cyl, which one do I look for, manual disc brakes with drums in the rear, i guess i have to change the valve to a disc brake one.....Thanks Webby ( oh ya i'm really looking for a nice set of spindels for the big rotors in my A-Body ) Thanks Webby.

Good luck finding rotors made here, it is possible though. I used Centric rotors, one has made in USA on the inside the other doesn't. I also used the Dr Diff brackets on my conversion, they are great!! I used the cast iron M/C, I'm thinking about going power assist so thats going to wait. I hear the 76 uses a larger piston in the caliper, you might want to check that out.

You can buy the spindles new, repops are out there now. Or you can pull a set off of any FMJ car, they're not that hard to find in the yards. I've posted this a few times, but here it goes again

CHRYSLER CORDOBA (1975 - 1983)
CHRYSLER FIFTH AVENUE (1983 - 1989)

CHRYSLER NEW YORKER 1982
CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY (1978 - 1981)
DODGE ASPEN (1976 - 1980)
DODGE CHALLENGER (1973 - 1974)
DODGE CHARGER (1973 - 1976)
DODGE CORONET (1973 - 1975)
DODGE DART (1973 - 1976)
DODGE DIPLOMAT (1977 - 1989)
DODGE MIRADA (1980 - 1983)
PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA (1973 - 1974)
PLYMOUTH CARAVELLE (1978 - 1985)
PLYMOUTH CUDA (1973 - 1974)
PLYMOUTH DUSTER (1973 - 1976)
PLYMOUTH FURY 1975
PLYMOUTH GRAN FURY (1982 - 1989)
PLYMOUTH SATELLITE (1973 - 1974)
PLYMOUTH SCAMP (1973 - 1976)
PLYMOUTH VALIANT (1973 - 1976)
PLYMOUTH VOLARE (1976 - 1980)

Spindles off of any of these cars will work. I paid $60 at the yard for my last set of spindles and caliper brackets.

As far as USA made rotors, good luck. Some of the Centric rotors are, some aren't. I've had pretty good luck with Summit lately though, seems a lot of the Summit brand items are USA made now. They sell drilled and slotted 11 3/4" rotors here

Might you guys know of any performance differences between the later 70's 11 3/4" brakes v the smaller 10 inchers? I understand the wheels need to be at least 15" to clear those rotors and calipers, but is there a better performing caliper for the larger rotors than, say, the 77 cordoba ones? It's only a single piston, which is why I ask.

for what it's worth...

if you can lock the brakes on a car (or full brake with anti-lock), the only difference in braking distance at that point is the quality of your tires.

having 10, 12, 15 inch rotors 1, 2, 4 piston calipers or real big ones will not affect your braking distance. it's the tires - how soft, how big of a foot print etc.

the only time bigger stuff comes in handy is during endurance racing where heat up becomes a factor...brake fade. the bigger stuff can dissipate more heat when you do a lot of hard braking over a long period of time.

so having bigger rotors really doesnt help most people. they are also important on trucks where you are towing/hauling lots of weight.

just for reference, nascars use 12.72" rotors on 15" wheels...

Thanks for the input. I am interested in the larger rotors for that specific reason, but am also interested in larger calipers for the purpose of more surface area. More pistons would be nicer for an even dispersion of the pressure on the rotor as well. Are those later calipers about as good as it can get for the larger rotors, then, since they are the ones designed for the rotor and make use of the larger surface area?

the sky's the limit actually.

i purchased a kframe kit from hemidenny (on this site) which has mustang II spindles. there are a myriad of brakes that will work with these spindles including SSBC, Wildwood, etc. i'm using a set of ECI brakes, which comes with an adapter plate, gm calipers, ford rotor & doesnt move the wheels out.

there is an article here about putting viper calipers on a B body. something similar could be done with an abody: http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/howto/mopp_0507_caliper_swap/viewall.html

a guy from this site, Badart is building an autocross race abody (early cuda)

take a look at his brake setup. he has a chassis shop, so he might be able to help/advise you and give you sources for parts etc.

good luck!

Your timing on this thread is perfect! I was just building a list of what to buy. Have the spindles and 11 3/4 brackets. Have gone to summit now and put the rotors on my wish list.
Thanks guys!

Not to hijack this thread but if you were swapping out rear drums for discs where would you guys look? I was thinking if I could scratch up enough cash to do it all at once I could got straight to a proportioning valve for front and rear disc and skip the disk/drum proportioning valve.

Thanks!
Mike

i got my wilwood kit for 600, came with rotors, calipers and brackets. the whole kit both sides only weights 35lbs
