Hey all,

I am just wondering what a 1970 440 6pak long block might be worth. I have the ability to pick one up for around $1000.00. Just wondering if it is worth the cake.. I really have no idea and would be interested to use it to build a car for the queen.. If anyone has an idea let me know.

Forgot to mention that it is a replacement block. I don't know if that would make any difference.

70-71 440 4bbl and 440 six packs have the same block.

What is the stamping on the upper pad look like? Is there an F or G on it and is there an HP on it? Is it blank or have some markings.

What is the casting date on the block? Does it have the special thick 70-71 440HP balencer?

IF it's a true replacement block with no numbers it's worth some money. The 906 heads aren't worth a lot nowdays, but still have value.

Need to really look at the VIN pad and see if it was originally blank or it someone put it on a mill and wacked off original numbers.

a replacement block wont have a VIN number , but it would certainly have an ID on the pad. it will also have the casting information on the drivers side of the block. pics of all this would really help , but it sounds like a killer deal to me.

If it's not a 70-71 C-body 350 horse 440 motor that someone milled the VIN off of. Then it's a $400-600 depending on completeness, bore size, bore condition, head condition, etc...

very true. im also guessing at how complete it may be , HP manifolds, intake , carbs , etc etc. all the little goodies add up in a big hurry. pictures would really help.

Thanks all who responded. The short block in question is not actually a 6-pack HP block. The guy was mistaken also when I checked it out the thing is seized solid. It was worth a look though.

This was a long block but with incorect heads and such. There was no six pack setup or anything of that nature and the connecting rods were not correct also. This would have been obvious if he had just taken a picture of the stamping first. He was asking $1k for it so I declined. I didn't have anything to put it in right now anyway.. I was looking for the car I am going to be building for the queen.

Just goes to show you that in this hobby there is always someone that thinks they have a piece of gold when in actuality it is just a piece of lead..

Ounce again thanks all.
