Rare Size

arn't the new cars wheels 5x114 or something. just bigger than 5x4??
Not sure, but I recall reading that most of the metric sizes are the same size, just stated in mm. Ex. 4.5" = 114.3 mm. However, most new wheels are for front-wheel drive, where the backspace is much different. The inside of the wheel is almost flush with the outside surface. I think even modern rear wheel drive cars are similar. Pretty involved to use one. Wheel spacers aren't thick enough and cost a lot regardless, plus aren't real safe.

While on this train of thought, note that roller bearings have always been standardized in metric dimensions. That goes back to Germany in the 1920's. To find a bearing, measure it with your inches calipers, convert to metric, round to the closest even mm and search it up by ID x OD x thick and should pop up. There aren't that many standard sizes. I got one for my Mopar transmission quick that way ($5 at an RV supply store).
