My car sat of a couple of weeks. I started it up this morning and 318 engine makes knocking and clicking noises. I'm trying to upload a video. My exhaust make a thumbing noise too but after like 20mins or so it sounded normal. Any suggestions? Thanks

Alright her is the link. [ame="http://youtu.be/rxiNBOsqtFk"]http://youtu.be/rxiNBOsqtFk[/ame] @ SGBARRACUDA you might be right, it might be my lifter. But it went away about after the car is warm up.

definitely one or two bad lifters if you have good oil pressure . go buy a new set and replace them all . stop running the engine and beating on the rocker arm. pop the intake and covers off and slip a new set in.

My last 318 did that after sitting a couple weeks once. Had to get it out of my buddies yard since he was moving. Anyway, after 30min of driving, the ticking went away and never came back

Knocking and clicking noise from under the hood? Check the grill for a Chevy emblem.. Sorry, couldn't help it..

Lifter noise . Oil seeped out and had a hard time pumping back up. This could be do to Low oil pressure . But could be caused by to lifter preload not correct.

You need to fix it right away, but there are probably things you could do that don't require lifter replacement. Try Amsoil engine flush. I also will take the rocker covers off and use a hollow push rod to to squirt Gumout or similar directly into the lifter. Push gently on the pushrod a few times to allow it to flow into the lifter. Let it sit awhile to do its thing. Replace the oil (I use 10-30) and see if that improves it. While you have it apart, check for worn rockers, bent pushrods, etc. Might as well do all you can while it's apart. Use an oil pressure gauge to be certain you are building pressue right away. I never shied from throwing money at something, but I always try all the other possibilities first.

Do you know why the exhaust thumps, or did that quit at the same time?

Yeah, it went away after my car is warm up n it's hasn't make that noise or thump. Only happen if it sat for a long time. I'm still gonna take a look at everything.

Thanks for all the help guys!!!

First tighten all header bolts. And try and add half quart of tranny fluid in ur oil might do the trick. Sounds weird but had and old timer do it to my old tired 318.lifter noise went away for me.and worse case pull intake off and valve train and replace lifters..

Funny - I always suspected Marvel Mystery Oil was nothing more than transmission fluid.

If it does it again take off a valve cover and find which lifter isn't pumping up. Take that lifter out and take it apart and clean out, sometimes they get junk in them which blocks the oil feed holes.
