My eddy performer RPM heads have the valve cover bolt holed drilled at a funny angle. they are not 90* to the gasket surface. this is a real pain in the *** with my cast alum. mopar valve covers. i had to use allen head bolts and even then they are a royal pain in the *** to get in. does anyone else have the same prob or did mind just get drilled and tapped on a friday at closing time?

Sounds like quality control issue, mine were fine but Yours isnt the first story I heard about quality.

That'd piss me way off, especially if I had them on already.

ya i found out when i went to button up the engine to fire it off for the first time. i ordered a set of studs for the valve covers to run a set of nyloc nuts on them and i cant even get the nut on the studd.

ya and they are not stock. i got the raw castings and had aero head install the guides and seats. then had them port/blend them and gasket matched them. i have over $1900 in the heads. they are awesome other than the stupid valve cover bolts. im half tempted to have them welded shut and then redrilled and heli-coiled.

How bad of an angle are they?
I have drilled and tapped for a larger bolt, and screw them in with red locktite, cut them off and then drill and tap down the center of the new larger bolt.
Could this work for you?

That's the first time I've heard of that - and honestly that's nothing I would have "checked" either... I actually like allen bolts- Especially if it's an engine with and adjustable valve train I can get them in and out faster aand don't overtorque them with a T handle.

Me too.

you could re-drill and heli-coil. that may be your best best. another way maybe is to drill it out, press in an aluminum slug, weld it up and drill them the correct angle.

I would take a set of junk steel valve covers and weld tubes on that have a bore that is needed for a 1/4" helicoil. Make sure all the tubes are straight and weld a gusset at the top to keep it all centered and 90 degrees. Drill away and insert 10 helicoils. Dont go to deep, you may hit a port. Also take pictures and send them to Vic Edelbrock for some cash back maybe.

Raw castings? Who threaded the valve cover holes?

Drill the hole straight & deeper install a helicoil in if you can, if not tap the hole again & put a longer stud then epoxy the old hole around the stud.
