ammeter bypass

HI Adam. Several ways to do that, but review the MAD article

http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtml

The short answer is "sorta."

What happens is that your original black, which goes from the alternator, through the bulkhead to one side of the ammeter, and...............

The original fuse link/ red which goes through the bulkhead to the other side of the ammeter...........

should be jumpered together at the ammeter......................

as well as.................

the bulkhead terminals bypassed or repaird.

What happens after it's done this way, is that the black and red are now in parallel, and BOTH act as "one big" battery feed into the car body.

But the thing is, now with the original black acting as a parallel battery feed, YOU NO longer have an effective fuseable link for protection, unless you add one between the alternator and the original black.

Have you seen this?

Should give you some ideas on the voltmeter conversion
