Ok Ive got a 72 dart swinger with a 93 magnum 318, 833 4 speed, 8 3/4 rear end and drive shaft was shortened by previouse owner. The tranny has been giving me issues like it wont go into reverse unless I shift to 3rd then to reverse and 3rd gear has been grinding when pressing to hard into the gear. For some reason 2nd is a pain in the *** to find. I drive the car almost everyday. To make a long story short I want to swap to a automatic and dont really know what im going to need. What would I need to swap a 727 or a 904. Thanks guys

Depends on if you plan on using the factory column shift, or factory floor shift, or after market floor shifter. With the 904 I think your driv shaft will work. With a 727 it will need to be shortened. You need a trans, flex plate, flex plate crank shaft bolts, torque converter, converter bolts, Aftermarket trans cooler if your radiator doesn't have provission for cooler lines.

Yeah im going to go with a aftermarket floor shifter from summit seeing theres already a hole in the floor board. Good info I didnt even think about the trans cooler. Am I right in saying im going to need a nuetral safety switch also.

And trottle pressure linkage to whatever carb you have.
Some of the problems you mention might be cured in shifter linkage adjustments, just a thought. Good luck

The 318 is fuel injected running megasquirt 2. I actually thought of seeing if the linkage was messed up but im more of a automatic guy now that my knees are bad and I drive the car quit a bit to work. just love driving it but shifting is killing my legs. Plus the throw out bearing needs replacing so if im going to do that im just going to throw a auto in there and be done with it.

Neutral safety is a non--issue. You should already have the proper starter relay, which has two "push on" connectors, just connect the one that went to the clutch safety switch down to the center post of the NSS

904/ 727, simple. Just deal with the driveshaft.

Be sure you research the balance issues (I'm not sure) with the magnum versus LA engines for converter weights or flex plate.

I run a 727 with an "all manual" valve body. Mine is reversed pattern, but you can buy them either way, and I just love it. I'm in the same boat as you---arthritis, I cannot "row" a gearbox anymore.

Funny story is the previous owner bypassed the switch so you can start it without the clutch being pressed in. More madness that has to be figured out I guess.
